Thermal Paste Question

So, as I am currently building a new pc I have a question on thermal paste.

I have good quality thermal paste but it was bought a few years ago. Does it have a shelf life? If so how often should it be replaced?

It does but they're all different. I'd open it and squeeze a tiny bit out. If it's discoloured, chalky or seperated its had it.

Not sure exactly what would 'go off'? I've been using the same paste for many years now, not very often so don't want to be buying a new one every time!

If it isn't well sealed it can dry out, and some of them can seperate out into their component chemicals.
