Phase 5: Digital Wardrobe: TV Mount

This is the idea:

Get some threaded rods and cut them up in to 4 lengths (Screwfix sell this)

And some M8 Nuts and washers.



The wall is made of lath and plaster so it needs to be braced. The picture above explains it well.

The yellow bits either side of the wall is plywood - around 10mm thick

well, there is no way that is going to fall

if there isn't at least one stud where you want to mount this, then i think you are going the right thing. I hate lath and plaster walls, but then i also love old buildings, so they are a necesary evil i guess

From what I can tell there is no stud, I need to get a tool to detect things on the wall

it can (apparently) be doe by tapping the wall and listening to the different echoes etc. My dad can do this, but it never works for me

I've got one of those detector things, doesn't always work that well due to the thick plaster and in some cases only 1" wide studs (kitchen wall is like this). However, when fitting the plasma, the studs were detected no problem.

Did you bolt straight in to the studs?

I am not sure if there are any - which there must be?

What size/weight is the plasma ?

That's some hefty DIY work to get it mounted.

Its a 32" LCD - 17KG but its going on to a wall which is essentially plaster - 1" thick an then thin lath behind it

So if I bolt through the entire wall it makes a huge mounting point, spreads the load

Either that or I end up with a big hole in the wall and a smashed LCD

My main concern is that I want to make sure that there is a bit of wood in the middle somewhere (between the 2 mounts) or I will end up with a hole...

Yeah i bored straight into the studs. They should be 18" apart or closer. they should be 2"x3", but sometime as small as 1"x2" when you are right up against a stone wall (mine are solid granite) but as yours is a partition wall, i would guess it would be 3x2.
