    Digital Wardrobe Update

First it's worth reading the history of this project!
Phase 1: Project "Integration" :: I don't want no cables.
    Phase 2: Sparks may fly
    Phase 3: Potential Problems
Phase 4: So the TV landed
Phase 5: Digital Wardrobe: TV Mount
Phase 6: Never knew mounting would be so hard....
Phase 7: Heave ho - its up!
    Phase 8: Mini-Update
    Phase 9: Bits arrived

Well it was time to tidy it up - I had patched in cables all messy and not taken care of it - this weekend I cleaned it out - and put my 360 back in - and sorted all the cabling.

In the photo you can see my Dell 2724 switch (I have a spare 16 port Gigabit switch in the bottom of the cabinet)

You can see my Thecus 5200 NAS box - which is loaded up with drives for storage, my Silverstone SUGO box which is my gaming/LAN rig, and the BTX system at the end is my Domain controller for my house (and back's up works Exchange box) on top of it is an Avvocent IPKVM.

There are 2 PIII 1.26GHz Retail CPUs for a future upgrade

I leave my USB Thecus Nano drive plugged in to my 5200 so I can remote access it - and all of my home network is Gigabit. I am using the Thecus as the Switch on the shelf - feeding in to the shelf above.

You can see my 360 sitting on top of the SkyHD box.

And the best thing? Its tidy!

I can't believe the cabinet looks messy from that angle in the photo!

Wish I could get a better shot

Now all I need is a small UPS to go in there to keep things running if the power fails

(Thecus, BTX System, Switch and ADSL Router)

So i take it you haven't had problems with the Thecus that others have been having?

If i had two PCs in there already, i think i'd go for a proper RAID card in one of them as opposed to an appliance like the Thecus.

EDIT: 'tis looking good though David

Why? Only one of the PC's is being used the other is for when I need a LAN PC. This is a wardrobe the idea you don't ever go in it

I've not had any problems with my 5200 at all - what issues have you heard?

What happens if you want to play a DVD or play a different XBox360 game?

Oh, and what speakers are you using with the telly, the inbuilt ones or an external Decoder/Reciever unit?

    Dave

I am using the inbuilt ones - this TV is in a bedroom

.... re different film - well the Wardrobe actually is off from my home office - so its not hard to get in to it.

You simply pop through and change the disc

I am going to get it set up for DivX Streaming when I get time

It may well be a bedroom one, I've got a 600w Panasonic Surround sound set in my room at home, Pearl Harbour suddenly becomes sooo much more realistic, works with most films, especially those with a DTS soundtrack

I didn't twig that only one was in use

There are a lot of complaints about the 5200 in the forum thread linked from the Hexus review. Also a distinct lack of support from Thecus by the sounds of things.

The latest firmware seems brilliant to me - adds medabolic support too.

It is ideal for what I need it for a stable, stand alone device - which has loads of disc space

I've not had problems with mine - and support, well I am lucky with a direct line to them
