Monitors, far too complicated!

Ok, so I have a reasonable handle on most parts of a computer, but monitors leave me confused!

Thus far I've considered

L226WTQ

Asus PW201

VX2025wm

E207WFP

SM206BW

HP W2207 22" Widescreen TFT Monitor


All of them seem to be a reasonable price I can afford, but there's so many conflicting reviews out there it's hard to know what's important to have and what isn't. I've seen both the Samsung and the HP monitors in the flesh, and I did really like the glossy finish on the HP. Does it really affect games that much if the colour definition isn't 100% perfect??

No you won't notice it at all unless you've just come straight from another monitor.

I'd say those are all fine monitors, except the value Dell. Go for whichever you can get cheapest and looks nicest on your desk

Thanks for that, now all I need to do is actually find the specifications listed clearly for those monitors (the colour definition is the hardest to find!)

Saw the HP one in CostCo yesterday - looked very nice

I've got the LG monitor and wouldn't swap it for a 20" screen - fonts are too small IMO.

This may be a really silly question, but would I be better off getting a straight forward, good quality 19" monitor like this one NEC 60001860

Given the way the specs read, it does seem you get better colour quality by sticking to a smaller monitor.

I like the 19" WS HP model but it only had VGA input no DVI and i do notice a difference with a DVI connection.

Well, I've decided, gonna head down PC World and Comet tomorrow and take a look at them. Everything else I can get from Scan as a good price, but something like a monitor I think takes a hand on look and I'm not sure how happy Scan would be if I order 6 monitors and send 5 of them back a couple of days later

Took me ages before i plumped for my Xerox 17" TFT. Awesome picture but now i would like a 19" WS TFT but Xerox only do one with a VGA interface. I don't want to go bigger than that.

Well, I went down to PC World in the end and I'm now in possession of a Samsung 2032BW. Yes, it was a bit more expensive than online but it gave me the chance to actually look at the monitor and play with it for a bit.


There's a slight colour bleed if you highlight text on a light background (slight reddy tinge) but performance in World of Warcraft is excellent.

Well, avoid the HP's, I thought they looked nice at first but they had a really horrible bleed on the red logo in PC World. There was a nice 19" Acer model if you don't mind a 1440x900 native resolution, all for £159

I've tried both DVI and VGA on this monitor, can't tell any difference whilst watching Babylon 5 (though admitedly that's a low res program in places) or playing WoW.
