    23/24' Monitor for £200-£250

Im looking into buying a monitor for £200-£250, I dont mind it being 60 hz, would prefer the better colours from an ips display, dont care about 3d and im going to be using it for gaming and university work.

    iv been looking at the Dell U2412M(£220 24" ips); Asus vg23ah(£210 23" ips, passive 3d);Asus PA238Q(£220, ips);Iiyama ProLite XB2485WSU-1(£250 24" 1920x1200 ips)

From doing a bit of research it looks like the Asus PA238Q has the best colours since it has 10 bit lookup table. the prolite might be better but i haven't been able to find much info about it and am not familiar with the brand

anyone know which one of these monitors has the best display or if there are better monitors at this price I should look at?
    Thanks

    Define "best"

If it's just PC gaming I'd suggest the Dell (warranty is worth it IMO), if it's for consoles too you would need something with an HDMI input, probably the Asus if it has it

Having a 10-bit panel over an 8-bit won't mean much unless you are doing heavy/professional image editing in most cases, even then it's better to look at the SRGB and Adobe RGB ratings for the monitor, Dell and Asus usually score highly there too

Got the Dell U2412M here and really can't fault it, used primary for games its a beautiful display, the adjustable stand comes in handy though I've never turned it on its side lol.

I would on my U2713HM but it removes pretty much all access underneath it when that is done, it's rather bulky in that aspect

If you're not really into image editing, and hence don't need a 10-bit panel etc, these look like absolute bargains:

Otherwise I'd be looking at a Dell IPS LED.

    I would go for http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-ao...1-5ms-speakers
Bear in mind that it is 1080p though but still amazing value and looks very nice.

But if you insist on 23/24" displays, then go with snooty's recommendation for sure.

I use a 22" Dell at work, some colleagues have the 24" IPS monitor, I have the 27" Dell (2560x1440) at home and have had 24" 1290x1200 screens before, at that size resolution matters a lot more, 22-24" you can get away with 1920x1080/1200 but past that you really benefit from a higher resolution for normal working

In some form of context I can theoretically play 4 720p films at the same time at native resoltion in my page (asuming a frameless player and I can overlay the toolbars), it's bigger than 2 a4 pages side by side (a 16:10 24" is the size of 2 roughly)

Unless it was mainly for a console (and with the caveat that despite my 360 being less than 2 feet from my screen haven't hooked it up to my 27") I would suggest going for a 23/24" screen, the better quality the better so IMO Dell, Asus IPS

    Re: 23/24' Monitor for £200-£250

The DELL IPS screens are very nice, in both picture and build quality (one of the bigger reasons to go for one in my opinion, love the stands mine have)

I've had both a 1080p and 1440 27" monitor, and to be fair, the 1080p screen wasn't bad, made films and games great (despite it being a cheap TN panel), but for work there's no doubt the U2711 is far better, the extra res is so useful.

    Re: 23/24' Monitor for £200-£250

The Asus PA823Q wins hands down in the comparisons i've read.

This German company do insanely through testing and reviews. http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/reviews.html

I bought my Asus PA823Q based on this, its an absolutely brilliant monitor, its a very good IPS panel and Asus have managed their way around the usual drawbacks of IPS panels (i.e. slow response times, color overshooting etc).
This makes is excellent for Gaming, Video, Graphic work, Documents, Web, basically anything.
Compared to the Dell recommended, its a few ££ more, but well well worth the extra - the Dell suffers from noticeable ghosting in games in some games, the Asus doesn't, at all, ever!

    Re: 23/24' Monitor for £200-£250

Was going to link you to a Hanns-G HS233-H3B but the company has stop selling them, It was 23" 120hz 3D monitor at £130.

    Was a great price also.

You can still get it for just under £156 from ebuyer

(doesn't come with glasses and requires shutter glasses - Nvidia's are fine if you have an Nvidia GPU of course).
