    Is this Gericom monitor terminal?

My daughter has a 4year old Gericom 19" LCD monitor hooked to her desktop by a VGA cable, but it has developed a fault. Although the power light is on, the screen will not hold a display for more than a second. I've tried powering it down, waiting, then powering up again, but the display just comes on, then immediately disappears. Is there a relatively simple solution, or is it time to get a new monitor?

Could be the power board for the backlight, I had an old LG that did similar - potentially cheaper to replace the monitor than fix.

I'd try another VGA cable first to rule it out.

Yes, had the same thing with an Elonex monitor - can you see the image faintly of you look at it at an angle witrh a bright light?

In my case, the problem was a defective capacitor on the backlight inverter - cost about £2 to repair once I got it apart. Cost of a new module was about £40 iirc (it was a few years ago.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can get it apart, worth having a go, but as monitors are pretty cheap these days...

Many thanks for your input guys. Have tried a working VGA cable - still the same problem. Wouldn't know a capacitor from a nuclear reactor so I think I'll give up fitting a new one - & that might not even be the problem. Will bite the bullet & get my daughter a new monitor.
