    Thoughts on this monitor accessory?

So I'm quite happy and content with my monitor, although a bit dirty and if anyone can give proper advice on how to clean this safely I'd appreciate it as I'm new to that kinda thing. Anyways, I was looking around and I wanted a headset stand etc and found this beauty as a monitor accessory, what are peoples thoughts on it?#

*Unfortunately can't place the image due to being a new member here :/ it's on the Gamdias website listed as the "Aegis"

I may sound stupid but is there anyway that this could damage my monitor? I'm guessing it sticks on but not wanting to scratch my screen etc. Also it seems to have USB ports. It's kinda confusing but looks pretty good... Any advice?

IIRC, it sticks to the side of the monitor frame. Scrub the dust off before you adhere it and it should work as designed (but no idea if it's any good).
The accessory itself shouldn't scratch your screen, but anything connected or hung off it may cause the occasional scratch if you're not careful.

I personally just don't like the design. It looks flimsy and I have no faith in the sticky pads.

I quite like the look of it, but I think its quite expensive for what it actually is. Like the idea, though.

Here's a link for people to see what you are talking about.

    AEGIS Artful Gaming Accessory: GST1100

It looks like both the cables that plug into the USB 2.0 ports and the headphones are designed to hang out towards the back of the monitor so I see very little scope for the screen to get scratched as the possibilities for accidental contact have been all but eliminated.

My concerns are over the double sided sticky tape mounting solution, I think over time the tape will lose adhesion and then eventually the accessory will just fall off.

My solution is a lot simpler, I have a hook under my desk, I have routed the cable for my headphones through a gap that feeds the cable to my PC so when I am not using my headphones they are tucked away out of sight but within easy reach when I want them. I think the hook I use was originally designed to go over the top of a cupboard door so you can hang tea towels/towels on it. I'm using something like these hooks but sadly there are no USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports.

Re: Thoughts on this monitor accessory?

Seems a perfectly reasonable USB3 hub - however I am immediately sceptical of anything sold as a "gaming" accessory - it usually means either something mundane sold at a premium price, or some piece of useless tat that is bought on the back of claims that it will instantly improve performance in games.

If you want a USB hub that you can fix to your monitor, you can look for a hub, and then look for some sticky pads to fit it it. Sticky pads are used to great effect to attach_GoPro_cameras (for example) to canoes, surfboards and so on, and replacement aftermarket pads can be bought on a well known auction site. Whether they are genuine VB (very high bond) adhesive or counterfeit is hard to say, but the weight of a UB hub isn't that high, so you would probably be fine with them.

Re: Thoughts on this monitor accessory?

I'd settle for a £5 bracket that looked inconspicuous and didn't have USB, I'll have 8 USB 3 ports and 3 USB 2.0 ports on my desk before this!

EDIT: Peter it looks like it's USB 2.0

USB 2.0 is a non-starter, although I doubt I'd need a bunch more USB ports anyway. I do need somewhere to hang my headset, but I could stick a bit of plastic to the wall or make something out of sugru.
