    Good cheap additional monitor

So I currently have a monitor which I use for gaming etc, it's a bit old but its a nice screen and has lasted rather well (NEC 20WGX2)

I'm looking for an additional monitor to use for work to extend this monitor, so don't want to spend a huge amount but I guess I want 1080p and not too much bigger than the current one which apparently is 20.1 inch but is more like 21 inch when I measured

    Thank you!

    Re: Good cheap additional monitor

By '1080p' do you mean 1920x1080 or 2560x1080?

LCD sizes are measured by the panels, rather than overall monitor. The 20WGX2 was 1680x1050 which is a 16:10 resolution, so the 16:9 or 21:9 1080 pixels high panels are going correspond to different diagonal sizes because they're different shapes.

    A 20.1" 16:10 panel is 43.29cm × 27.06cm

Height-wise that corresponds to 1920x1080 at 21.7" and 2560x1080 at 27.4".While you can get 21.5" on the former, the latter is only available in 25", 29" and 34" sizes AFAIK.

IIRC the 20WGX2 had a glossy screen coating which is somewhat unusual. If you want another monitor with such a coating rather than the usual matte anti-glare then that should help narrow down the search considerably.

Otherwise, they're all very similar. I don't remember if your current screen is height adjustable but if not then you may want to make that part of your feature list too as many cheap screens are not.

Keep an eye on this site. They often have Dell refurbs, which are models from a few years ago, but often at decent prices, especially if you (like me) prefer a seeperate monitor arm.
