Question 1440p, IPS, Freesync display suggestions

    Currently, I'm eyeballing the XF270HU and MG279Q.
The EIZO FORIS FS2735 exists as well (Although not available in UK yet?) but its far above my budget (>£500)

From what I've read, all 3 monitors use the same AU Optronics panel which seems to be notorious for backlight bleed.

There also appears to be people who have managed to changed the freesync range of the MG279Q from 35-90 to 57-144.

    So a few question:
    a) Of the two realistic choices, Which is better?
    b) Are there any other choices I missed? I don't mind the actual size of the screen, just the criteria on the title.
    c) Is there any news displays coming out in the next 7-8 months that I might be interested in? I couldn't find much info on this

Hdr and displayport 1.3 are also big things coming.

Re: 1440p, IPS, Freesync display suggestions

From personal experience (owning the Mg279q)

There sure is bleed, but I'm one of the fortunate that doesn't notice it....unless I go looking specifically for it.

I've altered my refresh rate to 35-110 and it's great, as I'm using a R9 Fury Air to power it. So I'm pretty much always in that range.

The pixel density is lovely, I actually think 1080p looks blurry now.

The response time is great, considering it's 5ms or is it 4? I can't remember, but I know it's not TN 1ms comparable. I personally can't tell the difference, maybe because I've been using IPS for the last 4 years, so I just don't know what faster looks like? Either way, it never stopped my killing spree's or made it hard to see what was going on in fast paced games.

Colour representation and colour in general is top notch, the only thing that beats it (for me personally) are glossy IPS screens or OLEDS.

All in all, I don't regret my purchase at all. I just wish I could afford 2 more and some more Fury's to handle them.

But not under £500 in the next 7-8 months.

Have you seen HP's Envy 32? That's a 2560x1440 screen with Freesync at a more normal dpi.

Re: 1440p, IPS, Freesync display suggestions

I've been looking for exactly the same thing and have exactly the same concerns.
I wish there was a VA type screen like that coming, but the only thing Ive seen close to that is an ultrawide thats only 2560x1080 across 35".

Its a shame about the lack of freesync/ 144Hz on the HP envy

Re: 1440p, IPS, Freesync display suggestions

If the MG279Q has the same bleed issues as the PG279Q, which I'm guessing it does, I would avoid it or make sure you buy from amazon as an RMA will be likely
