I tend to not like widescreens now as they are getting so wide its hard to play games on them especially COH so does anybody know of square monitors.

Probably not the best option for gaming (knowing Eizo, it won't be cheap), but it exists...

There are still lots of options in the 5:4 1280x1024 ratio: http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Computer...49=1280+x+1024 - lower pixel counts/density but I think they're still my favourite, tbh: if you need mroe real estate get two
Alternatively, there are still one or two 1600x1200 monitors out there: http://www.ebuyer.com/667896-eizo-fl...nitor-s2133-bk which used to be the gaming sweet spot.
If you really want traditional monitor resolution you really need to go second hand CRT though: 21" models tend to support up to 2048x1536 @ 60Hz, but have their sweet spot for gaming at 1600x1200, which they'll usually run at 85Hz.
Heh, I just did a quick google and it turns out that you can get 2048x1536 LED backlit IPS monitors: they appear to be aimed at medical imaging, and cost upwards of £3k! Not for the feint hearted. (if you want to shock yourself, https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourc...nitor&tbm=shop)
As an alternative, have you considered grabbing a couple of 1080p monitors and running them side-by-side in portrait orientation? That'd give you a desktop area for 2160x1920; pretty close to square...
I actually have an old 21.3" Iiyama Prolite 1600x1200 sat in the cupboard (4:3 aspect ratio) (from around 2004!).
It has a beautiful matte screen and excellent vibrant colour reproduction. Obviously it weighs a ton, and is old tech, but the image quality is superb. I'll dig out the model number when I'm home but I remember they were going for £1000 when I bought it (it was a professional grade monitor for graphics with an IPS display). Response time would be slow compared to modern standards and it only has DVI / D-sub inputs, but if you're near Sheffield I would be open to selling it for a bargain price as I'm moving house and need to de-clutter.

4x3 / 5x4 monitors take up less desk space and the ratio of width to useful screen size is much better.
However, 16x9 and 16x10 is a lovely ratio for laptops!
Good point well made - we have a classifieds section for a reason and do not tolerate trading in open forum.
All that said, the OP is making good progress towards the necessary post count for classifieds access without needless spamming, so you never know, in a few weeks maybe there'll be no problem with them trading with all the other contributing hexus regulars
No worries, it was purely a meant as a helpful alternative given the price and rarity of good quality 4:3 / 5:4 these days. I'm not actively trying to sell it.
No worries, your indiscretion is forgiven on this occasion
And seriously, OP - as long as you keep contributing to the forum (which you've done pretty well so far), you get access to our classifieds forum at 100 posts, which will give you the opportunity to buy and sell kit to/from other trusted Hexus regulars, many of whom are likely to have a spare monitor or two lying around
Yeah, I had an Iiyama CRT back in the day. What a beautiful beast that was! 1600x1200 at a refresh rate of 100Hz - flightsim heaven, lol. Or 1024x768 @ 120Hz, it outclassed a lot of other monitors for clarity and smoothness.
Mind you, it had a "desktop footprint" like the Hulk's
