Question Best 144hz Gaming monitor for single GTX 970???

    Hi All

I am tempting myself to upgrade my current 24" 60hz monitor for a more up to date 144Hz gaming monitor.

I was looking at getting a Monitor that was 27" 144hz g-sync with a rez of 1440p but after reading a few forums it sound like a single 970GTX would struggle???

    • So am i right in thinking that i should be looking at getting a 1080p monitor instead?
    • Is it really worth spending the extra £££ to get a G-sync monitor?
    • and finally what monitor would you recommend for around £350

Thanks for your time and help.

2560x1440@144hz is more pixels per second than 3840x2160@60hz.

Variable refresh rate is a waste of time in the majority of games if you're going to be buying the graphics card necessary to run close to 144hz. There will be a few that are capped or don't scale well that will benefit from it.

Have you considered one of the 35" 2560x1080 screens? They start slightly above your budget (~£400) and they need a slightly longer viewing distance than 2560x1440@27" (80-100cm) but they give you the high refresh rate at an easier to drive resolution.

Diagonal measurements are deceptive across different shapes of monitor so it's not as big as a 35" TV would be. The 34-35" models are ultra-wide versions of 27" monitors. Same height, but with a 320 pixel wide strip added on either side.

It's about 85cm wide, so it's not particularly excessive space-wise. If you've got a full sized keyboard then chances are your keyboard and mousemat take up a similar width.

AOC G2460PF should fit nicely, its a little smaller at 24" but for the money its great.

Also has 2 usb ports on the side which is a bonus. Plenty of reviews about.

At sub £200 aswell, you could almost get two...

ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27-Inch 2560 x 1440 Display 144Hz Refresh Rate WQHD G-SYNC Monitor - This is a TN panel are great for FPS games. As all monitors you need to calibrate the monitor. Do not get the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q 27 as this has major bleed issues, Check on the forums for an update, but alot of people have been sending these back. and Asus support really sucks. But PG278Q has been out a long time and its mature tech. but if your go to 24" BENQ top of the Range are best for gaming thou some say the colours are washed out. Scan also sell AOC G2460PG 24" 144Hz Full HD G SYNC LED Gaming Monitor for £289 - maybe youtube reviews for it?
