CS Steam 1.6 being SUPER laggy!

Ok guys, I just decided to upgrade my CS 1.5 to 1.6. Well, at this one server, I used to get around 50 ping but now its around 500. This also goes with ALL servers, and i'm not Downloading, or doing anything that would give me worse latency. All other games and internet work perfectly fine. Whats wrong?! Oh, i'm using WinXP and I dont have a sound card.

i had this, my pings tripled on like the first day i used it, theyve come back down but not to what they used to be, it helped exiting msn.

Sounds like Steam is updating something. Check the Steam monitor, I bet you'll see activity.

Steam really is quite bad. It's a shame things had to change, but like most pointed out it's a good way for valve etc to test the new system for HL2 etc. If it ever comes out

Steam was a big pain for me in the beginning though Steam looks as if it's going to be an integral part of valve games and mods

I am playing 1.5 for as long they WON will stay up. STEAM is way too slow for me. I guess I am really slow on adaptation

yeh i run cs in 1600x1200 (cos i can) and all the writing is stupidly big, i mean i used to have the net_graph thing on, but it just takes up too much of the screen... grr

while we're talking steam/cs etc, does anyone know any pistols only servers? cos the UK2 ones are too laggy, and most of the people use the 'autobuy' bug and get rifles etc which kinda ruins the 'pistols only' part of it..

I suggest you download TheAllSeeingEye program. It searches for servers for all the multiplayer games that you have installed. Really handy. You can modifiy search critieria in a million different ways. PM me if you want me to send it to u.
