I have a load of the old consoles sitting up in the loft all in working order. Still get them out and play them occasionally.

    I Have :

Commodore Amiga (Workbench 1.3 with memory upgrade and extra drive)
Commodore 64 (Tape deck and Disk Drive : Disk Drive is the Vic 20 Breeze Block, you had to turn the Disks over for the B sides !)
Specrum 48k and also 128 +3 (+3 had the built in Disk Drive)
    Sega Gamegear
    Atari Jaguar
    Super Nes
    Nintendo 64
Sega Megadrive (With CD addon and Master System converter)
    Sega Dreamcast

I noticed that the Archimedes was missing from that and also the Dragon 32, Also the Amiga 600 (Built in Memory Upgrade and hard disk). Another that is missing is the Acorn Electron and some of the BBC models you used to have at school. Finally the Commodore 16 and +4 are missing and also the Commodore 128 and the Commodore 64C (64C was the cartridge only version of the 64 that completely killed the 64 off)

No they wern't but they were very popular games platform at the time. Had loads of games for mine, thats all I used it for.

I remember buying it from the catalogue with Batman the Movie from Ocean and it cost me almost £600. The later models of the Amiga had problems with some of the games that required the memory upgrade. The Amiga 600 was worst for this as it had the memory upgrade built in and it wasn't quite a full 1 Mb of memory so things like Manic Miner wouldn't utilise the extra memory and not run correct if at all.

    Yeah,

I always get my stuff from Gamestation now, they are ALOT cheaper than the other highstreet stores, ours has been open just short on a year now (I think). You can pick up the 2nd hand consoles there (retro) for next to nothing and the games are dirt cheap.

The DVD's aren't to badly priced either, mind you the 2nd hand ones are really cheap if you don't mind waiting a little longer for the new releases.

The store here has an abundance of PC games, everyone seems to be taking them in lately so the 2nd hand ones are really cheap.

    Definately recommend Gamestation to anyone.

Lot of amstrads, specys, commodores and acorns missing off this one. Actually thinking about it, theres no tandy, sharp or anything PC! (nothing CPM/N at all either). It's a pity the Archimedes didn't make it, being the evolutionary father of both the GBA and the ngage.

We'd have a much bigger diagram if we put all those on though.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

The playstation 3 better be backwards compatible to PS2 AND PS1.

The sequel to the xbox better be backwards compatible too.

I think this ability makes a console, because who wants to have to keep all these old things around, new toys make the old ones basically obsolete! What Sony did with the PS2 is great.

the gamecube isn't a big profit turner, but isn't a lossmaker (like the xbox) either. units are sold at a profit, as are games. so really, there's not a lot for them to worry about.

as for backward compatability, any idea how horrific the ps2/ps1 compatability is implemented? i'd rather pay £130 for a new machine & keep my old machine somewhere for my old games than pay £300 for a backward-compatible machine, anyway

Gamecube sold fairly well over Xmas and i'd be surprised if it flops as they are still selling as are the games.

nintendo are generally good at avoiding flops

    virtual boy aside, anyway

the gamecube isn't a massive cash cow like the playstation 2, but it is profitable, so really there's nothing to worry about.
