    Best RTS for strategy noob?

I've played a bit on Warcraft III and had a go at the company of heroes demo, but yet to really get into 'real-time strategy' games, having spent my time on FPS. Can anyone recommend a good RTS to begin with - Command & Conquer seem to get good reviews but which one to start with or is there another seminal RTS I have missed?

Re: Best RTS for strategy noob?

Are you looking to play it online or for the single player campaign?

I really liked Paraworld and thought it was great for beginners especially. It's not a very well known one in this country, so I'm not sure how big the online community is now. But, I loved the subject matter and really enjoyed the campaign.

Personally, the strategy games that I still enjoy are Warcraft III and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2.

I still enjoy (even) older games like Dungeon Keeper 2, Homeworld and Populous: The Beginning.

The Command and Conquer series is reasonably straightforward, although I haven't played the last one.

go retro, play Starcraft mate, its cheap as chips and easily the best i have ever played. 3 well balanced but completely different sides, and a gentle enough learning curve and a million Koreans waiting to teach you the finer points of it.

don't follow all the Koreans examples though, playing 3 days straight, then collapsing and dying is not a good way to go.

Re: Best RTS for strategy noob?

Starcraft seems worth a look - 3rd best selling PC game ever according to wikipedia! And I definintely need 'a gentle enough learning curve' a lot of these games I do OK on the first few missions after the tutorial and then get absolutely stuck on one level.

I would definetly say Age of Empires is not only my favourite, but also one of the easiest. AOE2 is the best but a little old now, I would go for Age of Mythology

Re: Best RTS for strategy noob?

Its RTS mate not RPG... Hardest? theres like 8 differnt diffculty settings for the AI... And if you think your just gonna start playing supcom like counterstrike online and win then you are totally mistaken and should start off with the single player where it tells you what to do..

OP: You might wanna check out games like sudden-strike or world in conflict demo.

Re: Best RTS for strategy noob?

Start off with any of the old Command & Conquer games (Red Alert 2 being the easiest imho), then if you want to play Supreme Commander try playing Total Annihilation first. I personally prefer CnC3 over Supreme Commander.
