    Mass Effect s-l-o-w d-o-w-n

How bad is the slowdown on Mass Effect? Just ordered it (waited till after Xmas to get it in a sale... cheap skate) and thats what gets mentioned in the review.

So is it regular, now and again? Does it spoil the game or just an annoyance?

    Cheers.

    Re: Mass Effect s-l-o-w d-o-w-n

Its not often, ive had it in 2 "boss" fights so far. It doesnt come close to spoiling anything just a minor annoyance.

The only reservation i have is it seems to happen when theres lots of biotic powers (read: star wars force powers) being used and my character cant use biotics so it may be more often depending how you play.. if that makes sense.

I thought it was quite bad personally.

I have also noticed how the textures don't load properly its very strange.

the texture loading happens in a lot of games, you get placeholders until the proper ones load in. The slowdown only happened to me once in the later stages of the game in the mako in a watery bit (part of the storyline not a side quest). It happens all the time with the ut3 engine, but im not sure if ME uses that

    Re: Mass Effect s-l-o-w d-o-w-n

Noticed the textures a few times, facial and background not loading immediately so you get horrible grainy look until it sorts itself out. Havn't noticed any slowdown though, mind you only an hour or so into it at he minute.

I did read somewhere that the controls on this can just lock out at the most innapropriate times also. Still move your character about but the buttons will just stop working and you have to reload a prior save. In some scenarios you have to actually reboot the console.

Should imagine that they will patch it up shortly.

    Re: Mass Effect s-l-o-w d-o-w-n

I'm 7-8 hours in (though not played it for a couple weeks now) and haven't noticed too much slow down. The textures not loaded happens quite often, but it's not a big deal. The main bug I've encountered is getting stuck in the scenery. It's happened on 4 occaisions now, and usually crouching and standing up, or taking out & holstering your weapon fixes it - but not always.

    It's a VERY annoying bug.

Only problem I had was texture pop-in and I've completed one run through doing everything I possible could.

I'm about six hours and and have only encountered slowdown once, the texture loading issue occurs a fair bit but doesn't annoy me to any real extent, anyone know if there's a patch in the works to fix these problems?

It is a rather good RPG I have really enjoyed it!

Currently just past the "Conduit" bit and now I'm fighting loads of stuff all at once with a really rubbish party! Ah well.

Think I'm at the same bit - on Feros you mean?

Level 13 at the mo though, have been trying to do as many side missions as I can.
