    So, Spore then.

For those not in the know, spore is a game in developement that continues on from the SIM heritage.

Two years ago this video was published, which really excited us geeks.

    Spore Gameplay Video

But what i find interesting is the fact that they are trying to bring spore out for EVERYTHING.

Now, i understand why lego starwars is on every console, its very simple to develope, and the xbox360 and ps3 versions don't require much of a change.

But to make it run on a mobile phone? To design elements that interact so much. Is it really wanted? I'm happy to play a different game on my phone, my DS, my ps3, my xbox360, my PC.... get where i'm going with this?

I've yet to here an announcement that its out yet, so I wounder if its going to take a while longer, because of the plan to barstardize it accross all platforms. Its just I fear this results in a loss of unique platform features, lego starwars for example needs no real graphics power, thats half its charm its blocky. Yet something like spore could potentially need a sheadload, and if they're bringing it to the mac masses, who generally lack the PC's gaming performance (because they grossly overpaid for their hardware in the first place, then can't upgrade it). Are we going to end up with a jack of all trades, who can't do anything well, because platform x wouldn't support it? Or are we going to get something great that works on what ever it is you own, and misses you out of very ltitle.

Am i the only person who dosen't want a game to span all my toys?

    Re: So, Spore then.

I was _really_ amazed by the look of this when it was first mentioned a couple of years back. Now though, christ.....

It's going to take away Duke Nukem: Forever in the delays.....

But worse still, I'm sure two years ago it was advertised as more of a.... Civilization meets the Sim, with a dash of genectic engineering and Black & White power-tripping. Now it just looks like a kids game.... It's just going to be all about what colour creature you want and how many legs the blasted thing should have.

Infact, I bet Spore, the game, is how they made those utterly idioitic 'enemies' in Halo 3. What a crap game, I only played it for 20mins and that felt like a bloody endless time warp.

Spore is going to be a complete cack, the fact a team of weapons are STILL being paid to make this rubbish insults me.

    Re: So, Spore then.

I'm not sure about Spore. The gameplay looks too much like a flash game. It will try to cover all bases, gameplay wise and be mediocre in each.

The idea is quite cool but i'm not sure about how it will pan out.

EDIT: The teaser trailer linked above isn't worth viewing. No gameplay footage, no commentary, just 5 seconds of the logo appearing.

    Re: So, Spore then.

presumably the phone version will be like those giga-pet things with the LCD, where you looked after a virtual 'pet' til you got bored of picking up it's poop and drowned it in the sink... just me? Surely not.

Maybe this goes some way to explaining why it's taking so darn long to develop

That and the fact it's incredibly difficult to make a game that generates it's own content and it's basically 5 games in 1.

I remember that vid. Can't believe it's been 2 years plus. It looked amazing and I hope they haven't dumbed it down.
