CoD 4 patch 1.5 installation

Hello All,

I've just completed Cod4 last night, so finally decided to give MP a go (I'm not usually an online gamer) and it was really a good laugh and managed to get up a few ranks etc. I remembered in CustomPC they have a 32-player server, so attempted to start that but that told me that i needed patch 1.5.

Off i went to DL it and on install, I get an error message - "Could not find valid installation" then I click OK then it states that "A valid cd Key could not ve found" and then quits

I know its valid as I can still play online!!! And I've double checked the key in the multiplayer menu...

Any ideas??? I was thinking of re-installing to see if that makes a difference, but how do i keep my ranking etc? Is it all contained within the profiles folder in the install directory. A bit peeved really, maybe i will stick with the version that i have already...

Any help would be much appreciated

EDIT: Had a look round IW forums and came up with this link, as there is something up with the installer of the other versions. The patch seems to have been applied - going to try to see if i can get online.

Your MP save data is all stored locally. In your CoD4 install folder, check in .\players\profiles\[profilename]\ and look for a file named mpdata. (If you are running vista and install to the default location (program files) this might be in your AppData folder)

Just back that up in case you ever need to reinstall. Also there is a config_mp.cfg which is worth backing up which contains all your keybinds and game setup.

Version 1.5 in that link upodated just fine, but most of the servers i tried were 1.4, and you would just get an error message on connection. And i dont think that there is a way to filter by server version is there?

So basically I uninstalled and they have a "Do you want to keep your settings and profiles" prompt. Just said yes and then reinstalled to get back to 1.4 - seems to be many of those.

Was great fun - just up to level 9 (Nearly Sargeant) and its pretty tough - just on free for all though - need to figure out what the other modes are (Should really read the manual!)

team deathmatch is the best mode imo. great fun and very intense especialy on a 40+ server

Do a 1.4 patch then 1.4 to 1.5

I had the same problem with my game and it was fine doing it that way

The thing is, I was already on the 1.4 version... But either way, that annoying message about the server version has done my head in enough, so until i get it saying that its v1.5 more often than not, then I'll stick to 1.4

Is there any Hexus server that guys here hang out on? It seems odd that there isnt yet - seeing as its so popular online.

The server version thing is a bit odd, I was led to believe that the server browser will only show servers that are of the same version or at least compatible, which 1.3/1.4/1.5 arent

We run AWE4 on our server with custom maps, they are slowly starting to come out

oooh - will have to check the Scan server. Only played about 5 hours in total and think that its ace - defintely got me into the MP.

That's not intense, that's mayhem...

You want intense? Play something like TD or S&D on a server with only 2 or 4 players on, now THAT's intense (and also humiliating if you ain't that good like me ).

Basically, want mass points? Join a server with 30-40+ players. Want a really fun game? Join a server with less than 8 players on it.

As I've played a bit more - up to level 20 now - i think thats true (allen's comment) - sometimes when I jump onto a server, I try to pick one that has about 8 max on it. That way there seems to be a bit more of a one on onw feel when you engage someone. As soon as theres more (and especially on some of the smaller maps) its too much and a bit haphazard. I am loving it though. Trying to hone some skills on free-for-all before moving to the other game types.

might as wel stick wit the console versions then. for me its intense, not mayham in a 30+ server. for me its like taking part in a real war. 2v2? LOL thats hadly emulating a real war.
