I'm using an Everglide DKT Megamat, biggest they did before the Titan and a Logitech G7, prior to that I used an MX-700 until I clicked it to death. My MX-700 had the same inertia problem that you describe, it's mostly down to the increased weight of the pair of AA batteries inside it. I've used G5, G7 and G9 and they're all much lighter than the MX-700. The MX-700 and MX-518 were the first mice they made with the shape they have, the G7 and G5 are essentially upgraded versions with sensitivity modifiers and one less thumb button.
Can't say I'd recommend the G7 though, if you can even find it these days. Switching the batteries mid gaming session can get quite annoying, and for some reason its plastic attracts dead skin worse than anything else I've ever seen...oddly the G5 doesn't seem to have that problem.
