    Nausea (no, not a game!)

Sorry if this isnt the right place to be asking but...

I get this really werid thing whereby after about 10mins of playing a FPS game i start feeling really sick.

I bought a copy of Half Life Generations (the 4games in 1 thing) to see what all the fuss has been about and i managed to get throught the training mission of CS before I started feeling unwell. I also remember the same happening when I was playing Max Payne on the Xbox.

HAs anyone experienced something similar and if so are there any ways to avoid it?

    Cheers

    Ed

Sounds like you have motion sickness mate. Depending on the severity of it you may have to give up FPS games

My cousin has it and after 10 minutes on goldeneye he cant stand up and is about to throw up. Som games move so fast that they bring on motion sickness in sufferers such as yourself
my cousin has to stick to 3rd person games. Pulled a couple of links of google, hope this helps mate.

    That must really suck

I only get motion sickness in a car when i cant see the road, never in a game?! Must be a wierd feeling.

Do u use headphones or speakers? Cause i would have thought headphones are worse as its more "in your ear" and stops more normal surrounding sounds so makes you feel more in the game?? perhaps..
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

I get the same thing on descent (the old 3d game which is VERY colourful)

Couldnt play that for very long at all. seemed to be the only game that affected me like that tho.

    Bugger!

Ah well, better stick to strat games then.

I'm using Videologic's ZXR-500 5.1 Speakers. Funnily enough I never get car sickness. Weird.

Anyway, thanks for the info you guys.

Some people find that turning off the weapon bob solves their motion sickness problems. Try it.

my missus suffers pretty badly with motion sickness, and was sick after playing GTA3

must be a real killer...its not like you can pop a few travel sickness tablets every time u fancy playing a game

u probably know this, but make sure your monitor display frequency isn't too low since this can cause problems if its low, especially if you're in an artificially lit room since there can be an interference effect between the monitor display rate & the frequency of your lighting

i know this is the case with strip-lights since their frequency is close to 60hz, i can only assume it may be present with other types of lighting too (its been a while since i did any physics )

as for my missus - i just told her it was probably best if she never, ever went near my computer ever again

i suppose you could take those quells things or whatever they're called, motion sickness pills, guess it could get quite expensive.

my dad has this wrist band he got from boots or superdrug which he wears when going to france (booze cruise) to stop him getting travel sickness, u should try wearing one, sounds stupid i know but he swears by it.

i like the sound of those wristbands - gonna look into those for my missus cos she gets sick on just about any form of transport (except for cars when she's driving). cheers for the tip kranix

problem with motion sickness tablets is, many of them cause drowsiness, so you're not likely to be at your best for gaming!!

According to those links, you're not gonna be able to play any new games without a VR headset, and a running machine to move on.

PS: unlucky dude, thats seriosly gonna spoil HL2 and doom III for you.

Yeah... I get that sometimes, it's horrid! Luckily, it doesn't always happen, but Herdy Gerdy makes me bad (not quite FPS, but hey!!) ....and if I've been playing Severence for a LONG time....

    Nightmare init.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
