Exclamation Starcraft 2 is now a trilogy

While this news is not yet posted on any of Blizzard’s official websites, it has been scattered across the gaming press (e.g. Escapist, Gamespot, Kotaku and loads more) so it probably won't be long until it they change that.

Starcraft 2 is going to be released in 3 stand-alone installments, with each containing a long (~30 missions) single player campaign for a single race. Word is these will be full price, contain the full multiplayer component and be released with a year between them. While obviously anything that happens between now and release is subject to change, most speculation is currently around the implications this has for your bank account...

What are people’s thoughts on this?

Personally I don't know what to make of it. It seems odd to me that the successor to a game that's widely popular for multiplayer has such a large amount devoted to single player, along with buying a game for multiplayer but not being able to play with all the toys in a more relaxed environment beforehand. 30 missions with one race also seems a bit excessive. On the one hand kudos to them for making something they feel is long enough to deliver their story in a time when people often complain games are too short, but on the other it's 30 missions...with only one of 3 sets of units...is there going to be enough variation to keep it interesting? The other implications are things like unit updates meaning that the Protoss could handle quite differently in their campaign to how they do in the initial release, along with other such tweaks.

The last issue is of course paying for it 3 times, and personally I don't think I can be bothered, although that has more to do with my personal annoyances at the RTS genre.

really depends how much of the story there is, if there is a good one, its a fair price.

I'm still looking forward to it

Excellent idea. 30 missions is tons of content for this kind of game, so getting 3x that eventually makes me very happy

Re: Starcraft 2 is now a trilogy

I've never played starcraft, but I'll definitely be trying out one of those installments. Just hope the game is worth buying three times lol. Hope it isn't overpriced and with over restrictive DRM like spore.

    I used to play BF3, Battlefield BC2, BF4 and TF2
