COD5 Black screen?

Ok guys thought id give the game a go. Thing is when i load the game, i can hear what appears to be the menu music but the screen is black and no matter how long i wait nothing happens.

My system is in "my system". Ive read somewhere thats its because my gfx card doesnt support shader 3.0....but ive jsut youtubed someone playing cod5 on that gfx card


Any ideas all?

Try changing your desktop res to something lower (1024x768) and also try changing the refresh rate to app controlled or 60 Htz. Some older Ubisoft games required that the colour depth and res on the desktop be set a certain way before the game would run.

As above, there is also a massive thread on the cod forums over this, it effects COD 4 just has much as this , i know because i keep getting it

tried everything lads. Still no go. Tried running in win95 comp, dropping res to 1024 instead of 1280, dropping refresh rate to 60 instead of 75. Tried updating direct x, and isntalling knew aTI drivers.

Literally all i get is the black screen.

Lets hope its fixed in the full release otherwise i gotta get SM3.0 card i beleive

One trick which is a bit of a cludge is to start it, let it go to blck screen, alt+tab out and close it

Restart it and it will ask to start in safe mode, agree to safe mode and it should launch with no issues, while in game pick your settings and off you go.

This is based on the same game engine that COD4 is based on, the issues with the black screen happen in that game, there is currently a 32page thread on the cod forums over the issue of a black screen at start up of CoD:WaW and so far no offical response from the makers.

Mine seems to be working, how i fixed it i am unsure of, might have been installing dx9 again, might have been putting newer cat drivers on, might have been the sound drivers, might have been updating the pb files, might have been setting the desktop refresh to 75Hz sod knows all i know is that it seems to be working now

Best advice is to keep looking over at the official cod forums although it does seem to get spammed there with the same problems. Have you tried changing the quality of your sound to cd quality instead of studio? That seemed to work for me

string3R im not sure how todo that via XP, as i only saw the route using vista. Ive done evrything else above and checked the forums too, and ive loaded in safe mdoe and still get the same. PB files i could try updating but i doubt it will be that tbh
