    Space Rangers 2: Reboot

Anyone played this? Got a great review here: http://computergames.ro/en/games/vie...on/review.html

I think it needs the original to play. Would be nice to try a demo of it really.

    Original game I think: http://www.1cpublishing.eu/game/spac...ators/overview

    Expansion: http://www.1cpublishing.eu/game/spac...eboot/overview

The original game gets some good user reviews on amazon too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Contact-Sale...owViewpoints=1

Edit: Aha, a demo (I think it's the same game!) http://www.fileplanet.com/162972/160...ominators-Demo

Yet I've never heard of it, a good game that passed everyone by?

A few people here have played it. It's so good, it could possibly be in my top 10 games of all time list. If not, it would be close. I absolutely loved it.

I'll be checking this expansion out soon.

I play Space Rangers 2 from time to time. It's kind of fun quirky old-school gaming really. Nothing massively to recommend it apart from a slight feeling of nostalgia for no reason at all

    Re: Space Rangers 2: Reboot

Yeah it's pretty simple, not a whole lot of depth to it and it's technically very simplistic too, so no uber graphics like Eve Online or X3 or something to get you all excited.

What really impressed me though, was that it's basically several different pieces of gameplay all packaged together in one game, so it's hard to get bored of it. One minute you are trading stuff in space, sounds boring, but really it's fun because with every trading run, you make a big stack of cash which you can use to buy something new and cool. Then the next minute you are playing a Command & Conquer type game which was surprisingly fun, then the next minute you are doing a text based puzzle game where you have to run a hotel or manage a rock band or something (like the old adventure games that were all done with text), which again was surprisingly fun, then you are in combat in space fighting a bunch of dominators, and then you go through a wormhole and you are playing a 2d shooting game.

So all of them a pretty simple and nothing really that amazing individually, but because it has all of them in the same game, I just found it impossible to get bored because before something becomes tedious, you find yourself doing something completely different. For that reason I thought it was pretty genius.

I've played games like X2 and X3 before, and although they are more impressive graphically and stuff, it takes longer to do a trade run than it does in Space Rangers, and yet it's no more or less satisfying. So I preferred Space Rangers because in the time it takes to do a single trade run in X3 with all the slow arse docking and warp gates and stuff, you could do about 5 trade runs in Space Rangers and then you get one of the quests which breaks it all up.

Probably not everyone's cuppa tea... but I really liked it. Especially considering it's a smaller independent budget type game anyway.
