The amount of destruction going on could be quite strenuous on the CPU - Which model is it exactly as i'd be surprised if its a CPU bottleneck if its a Core 2 model, personally.

It is a core duo 6000 @stock 2.4ghz, fairly good graphic card (allbeit at least a year old) and 4gb ram and on win7.
Will get him to check his cpu load in task manager next time we play later, and see if the update has made any difference.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
no i doubt it will help if he is minimum spec, he will have the BC2 slideshow.
drop the res as low as possible, it may help.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
We could do with the full system spec really so a few screen dumps of CPU-Z wouldn't hurt :) Looks like he'll have to take up Gonzo's suggestion and run on lowish settings until he's found the problem.
Is a bit of CPU & GPU overclocking out of the question for your mate ?
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Have you tried changing the dx version from auto to 9?
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
at a guess his system isnt up to running vista or win7

The game is currently a slide show on almost any Core 2 CPU at the moment. It's not very optimized for anything put high end PCs. I'm on a Q9400, 4GB DDR2 Ram & GFX275 and even I dip in to the 30's often with a couple of settings on medium!
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
cheers for all the tips and comments, not got chance to speak to him last week. In answer to most yeah we tried the DX9 option on his machine (it was using win7) and tried low res which made it partly more acceptable but still not great. As the last few comments said about slide show on core 2 duo kind of makes sense. It is more or less minimum spec, but i do now remember reading that demo is not optimised totally. He will have to wait and see what release is like.
Personally for my machine i play at 1920x1280 with settings at medium and it plays nicely. Seems the best setup for me rather than lower res and up detail.

Its quite interesting as i have a similar setup E6600 4 gigs and x1950pro, going to upgrade that shortly and whilst its not uber smooth its more than playable on 1600x1050 mostly low.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
I still find it weird how your struggling so much, all i can suggest is maybe make sure DX9 is on and hope the final product is a lot more optimised.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
a new version is being released this week hopefully
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Looking at the servers there seems to be 2 up. R6 & R7.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
those who tried to play today would have noticed the backend was down and no one could login, R6 killed the system (and took BF Hero's with it)
R7 is now out and the backends up. we all turned the servers back on nice and slow tonight to make sure things worked.
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
I've been in a few games that have been absolute lag-fests since the update. Does this game support DX11 if so could someone with a DX11 card post some screenshots up of it in DX9 compared to DX11 please :)
Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
My EA store copy has been pre-loaded and is ready to play :)

:rockon2: There is already a patch up which includes some optimisations apparently.
