Razer 2k1 - best money can buy in terms of performance. Yes it's a ball mouse and needs looking after and the shape can be a bit odd at first, but I've yet to try anything that's beaten it for me.
seconded. Though there are some rather annoying things that need doing to it though...
- the black textured ball is crap, change it asap for a white smooth ball like in most ball mouse and you will notice a large improvement
- on the bottom the plastic surrounding the slidy plastic things is taller than the plastic things, meaning the slidy things dont touch the mat, and the mouse will move very bad.. file or dremel these away and again, works much nicer.
Overall its a bloody good mouse, and I very rarely need to clean mine (once every few months...) and I constantly eat at my pc, so theres crumbs of food all over my mat (yes im a fat *******) and i still dont need to clean it much.
Razor Boomslang 2100 is the world's best gaming mouse, end of story.
Not sure about all this ball changing and Dremel related larks though - I've never had to do anything with mine, and its the dogs blobs.
i diisagree, i have an MIE v3 and its perfect for me, i have big hands so its comfortable for me, and very precise.
This is very much a personal thing. You will see many many threads on the subject. There are those (some above) that would die rather than lose their Boomslang and there are those (like me) that couldn't get used to it. It's was way too big for me. The important thing is to have a GOOD test drive BEFORE you buy one.
However having said that, I have a probably unique solution for a gamer! When I got rid of my boomslang, as a stopgap, I purchased a "Microsoft Optical Notebook Mouse" and I'm still using it after over a year. Very small and light and extremely responsive. Fits wonderfully into the palm of my hand. The only disadvantage for me is it having only 3 buttons.
The Man with the Silver Spot
I'd agree with changing the ball for an older Razer ball or cheapy - just simply because they're heavier. The standard ball with the 2k1 is a bit too light.
I've never had to dremel the underneath down with any of my Razers though, mine sits perfectly on the "skates"
MS Inteli Mouse V3 for me, very happy with it, I've hadit well over a yera now, beforeI was always getting a different mouse every couple of months.
lowe what i meant is if u look on the underside, there are raised plastic bits surrounding where the skates sit. After a little use the skates wear down and are no longer higher, and movment is no longer smooth, and also scratches your mousemat. It gets a lot more noticable after about 3 months of use.
Thanks for the replies...
Wheres the best place to purchase a Boomslang 2k1 then?
Look for a place that sells the Boomslang with a Black Ice Mat, they make a great combo, and it looks pretty top as well.

www.gameplay.co.uk is where my friend got his. Have you tryed one out - mainly because I know some people really hate the shape of it. I loved it but others don't.

Well I plumped for the mx700.... I was gripped by its better looks and I think I'm too attached to the wireless theme with my old setup!
I am using a MS IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 wired optical with 5 buttons.
I have only had it a few days and it is the first optical i have owned but I find it very nice for games although the ergonimcs take a while to get used to. The five buttons are very useful aswell.
My FarCry skills have improved nicely although saying that I was only using a crappy cheap ball mouse before.
I've fiddled with both the mx500/510 and 700 logitech opticals and they are flawless - really superb mice.
Any MS IntelliMouse V3 or higher is good. I dont like the wireless ones, too heavy.
