    Skyrim : loot

Hi, I know there are Skyrim threads already, but I want to avoid any potential spoilers.

I am wondering, has anyone ever stumbled upon some loot (via rewards, corpses or random chests), whether it's apparel or weapons that is so much better than something you already have?

I ask because everything I've seen has only ever been slightly better than what I am already using, I am not getting any "wow! this changes everything!" kind of moments.

So, without going in to too much detail, has anyone found an item that's so much better than anything they've already had?

    Re: Skyrim : loot

Their are certain masks in some of the more advanced tombs that have far better stats then other items, problem is they don't work as part of a set so you don't get a armour perk bonus.

Otherwise no not really, not come across a umbra sword yet if thats what you mean

    Re: Skyrim : loot

I remember getting a Glass Bow fairly early on, when I was still using a pretty basic one. As for armour, looted armour was generally only one tier up from what I was using, but the rewarded ones were quite good (Nightingale one, and the gloves from Brotherhood). It's only just recently with my Smithing and Enchanting skill at 100 that I've pretty much maxed out my stuff (dragon scale armour with dual enchantments). However, the unique loot can be good (masks as mentioned and some of the Daedric loot).

I found a 100% disease resistance necklace, which I believe means I'm immune to being turned into a vampire. Kinda nice Other than that found loot isn't great, but there are some nice items from questlines.

It kinda depends what your expectations are. I remember finding my first health absorbing sword. It was pretty weak but it meant that I could disenchant it and now can make really powerful health absorbing weapons which is a huge game changer. I think the best thing you can hope for from ordinary loot is a rare enchantment because you can smith some of the higher level stuff fairly soon.

Lol yeah I only found one at level 36 or so. It does make melee a bit too easy though, it's almost impossible to die now against a melee enemy but mages are still bitches.

    Re: Skyrim : loot

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies

I seem to have found a nice balance of items at the minute, but I am sure they will get replaced one day.

Potential spoilers below I guess, but I'd like to hear what setup you usually go with, me..

    Nightingale armour (full set)
    Ebony Sword (superior)
    Ebony bow (superior)
    Spellbreaker shield.
I can't remember its name but I have an amulet that boosts all three main areas.

I think I may have got lucky with the spellbreaker, it's easily the best shield I have seen especially against dragons, as soon as I can improve enchanted items, I'll do this too : D

    Re: Skyrim : loot

Once you get 100 smithing and enchanting, you can make some legendary equipment with two enchantments, so at the end I was using a full set of Dragon Scale armour (the light one), with various buffs, mainly weapon ones (usually 4 x 40% increases). I also made a necklace and ring to boost my frost and fire resistances for dragons.

Yeah I recently made about 200 iron daggers just to get smithing high enough to improve enchanted items, so I may aim to do that.

I did that, enchanted every single one of them, then sold them all, requiring lots of 48hr waits until the merchants got cash in again.

I pulled out all the stops to get the 100,000 Gold achievement.

I didn't bother with smithing until I wanted to improve my nightingale armour. And to do that I needed to get to level 60 and use the perk. So it was either quickly get it done by spamming daggers so I could do what I actually wanted, or faff about pretending I want to smith all kinds of other things. The former seems more fun to me!
