Does anyone have a playable demo of Doom 3? Or is it just the bog-standard rolling videos?

There is supposed to be a demo on the cards, but after the game is released so I have no idea how long you'll have to wait.
Isn't that a bit weird?Originally Posted by Devilbod

Well, I'd say it *used* to be wierd, but is more and more common these days. I have to admit I don't like it, but it does seem to be that companies like to milk a game first and then try and 'mop up the drops' later with a demo. Naughty, but that's the way developers/publishers think these days - especially when they can back up not releasing a demo with an 'independent' gaming mag review score 'of at least 90%'... And that wasn't just a swipe at Doom3, but a lot of games in general. Best thing we can do, I guess, is read Hexus for some real-world feedback and then wait for the demos to turn up. Or do what I do: buy a game in the knowledge that someone else at work will 'take it off my hands for a good price' if I don't like it.

Nope, developers are under a lot of pressure to release the full version of games as soon as possible. This means as soon as the game engine and level designs are sorted they are looking to go gold. Any demo's released before this will not be using the completed code and so will fall short of how the game should be experienced which will put more people off than it will turn on. So you can't expect many pre-release demos any more. In the good old days publishers could afford to wait a few weeks between releasing a demo then releasing the full game to get publicity, nowadays they try to get as much free publicity without having to wait for their cash.Originally Posted by Ruggerbugger
