    World of Warcraft

Afaik, this will be released next month.

However i've been tearing my hair out for two days trying to find somewhere i can preorder the Collectors Edition that will ship to the UK Even Amazon don't seem to have it availiable for UK shipping...
I know the non-collectors is cheaper (play.com- 17.99) but i'd really appreciate it if somebody could find me any site that will supply the Collecters edition to mainland UK- i've googled, yahoo'd, and asked Jeeves but i'm not getting any results

    Cheers,
    klarrix ~

Next month? Has there been an annoucement to that effect? Cos last I heard it wasnt anywhere near release. In this month's PC Format they're saying it's going to be well into 2005.

Yeah last I heard it's Q1 2005, and the US open beta is taking signups currently, so it's a few months off yet...

And if my sources are correct, at least at the beginning you will need a US credit card to subscribe to the US copy of the game played on US servers, and later when the European version comes out they will have similar restrictions.

Most of the friends I want to play with are in the US anyway, so I'll have to get my dad to buy & subscribe a few accounts and I'll pay him via Paypal.

Sorry, made the mistake of trusting online store dates that obviously havent been updated since July

If there's that amount of time to wait then i'm not too fussed.
    cheers!

Some useful links and a little info...

    WoW Home Page

    Press Release (4th Nov)

    Payment Options (US prices):
The Subscription options for World of Warcraft are as follows:
    - 1 month: $14.95
    - 3 months: $41.97 ($13.99 per month) *
    - 6 months: $77.94 ($12.99 per month) *
    - 60-day Prepaid Time Cards (click here for more information on Prepaid Time Cards)

    * Please note that the 3-month and 6-month subscriptions must be paid in full at the beginning of the billing cycle.
FAQ forum thread (with LOTS of people complaining):
Unfortunately, because of the current realities regarding local billing requirements, privacy of information across international boundaries, and the aforementioned issues with connection quality between regions, we will be unable to offer cross-regional services at the time of the North America/Korea launch.
    ...
As with Europe and Asia, North American players will be restricted to North American servers.
    ...
Players who do not use a method of payment accepted in North America and who do not have a North American billing address will not be able to play on US servers. Therefore, we highly recommend that players in other regions instead preorder the game for their local region and purchase their World of Warcraft subscription when the game launches locally to them.

On the pricing side, I don't know if they will allow Europeans to pay in US dollars, but here is a direct conversion of the US billing rates:
    $14.95 = £8.06 (1 month)
    $41.97 = £22.63 (3 months)
    $77.94 = £42.03 (6 months)

Maybe they will have separate billing in euros for us, and make it a dollar-to-euro conversion, putting the rates at £10.48, £29.35 and £54.50 respectively.

The mark-up on the Collector's Edition is sickening, it is $79.99 (£43.13) in the US - http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/242464.asp.

I'm going to get my parents to reserve and collect a copy in the US and pre-pay for 6 months rather then be resrtricted to play on the European servers and end up paying more.
