iirc the top one is part of the intro sequence, with the other being in-game (obviously).
Bouncer sucked anyway, it didn't do half the stuff they said it should have been able to, another victim of being rushed to market before it was ready..

it looks like it has been rendered for a movie, and to top it off its only the head.... what about the body, the background for instance in that shot is quite poo.
I think the entire of the PS3 was melted during the rendering of that, as the head is close to Final Fantasy spirits within.....
Could you imagine playing a game like Final Fantasy spirits within, They used Quad Processors and Excessive Graphics to render half the stuff they did.
This would mean the PS3 would sell at a few grand
Dude
Or the fact that technology has moved on since The Spirit Within was produced 4 years ago?
Bang on, that's been reported again and again in industry mags, things are moving on *fast*Originally Posted by RoGuE|SaBeR
With games developers starting to use techniques such as subsurface scattering (skin is slightly translucent with depth, not just a flat beige blob), HDRI lighting, and other advancments in geometry, all mean that the level of realism is going up substantially, while the requirements to achieve them is coming down through optimisation (realtime rendering, rather than the "render it and wait a day" when the techniques were first used in the effects industry).
Couple that with the advances in machine power and you can see what is starting to be possible, stuff that only a few years ago seemed utterly impossible.
I'm not saying that it *will* be the in game graphics for that particular title, but it's certainly possible that it could be part of a realtime rendered intro sequence, which in itself is a large step up from the things that have gone before it. Maybe once the developers have been working with the hardware a while longer we'll see something approaching that in game a few years down the line.
Technology *and* development techniques don't stand still guys..

I think development techniques definitly would take credit for making most of this 'unbelievable' graphics true. I mean, look at what we had at PS2 launch, and with no change in the hardware, what we have now is an impressive evolution.
Notice the head is static they're just moving the camera... I'm wondering just how much of that lighting is generated, and how much is pre-baked texturing.
Personally, I won't believe any screenshots till I see similar results actually moving on a screen. Given the ps3 hardware isn't made yet, that isn't going to happen soon.
the PS3 technology has been made availble to developers in the form of development kit - basically the hardware, without pretty box, and all the safety and operating locks turned off....
I think some people think that just because they havent seen it in a review in a magazine the technology isnt there yet....

PS3 maybe?
The Cell processor taped out ages ago, and considering there's now less than a year until the launch you can bet your ass (or donkey if you feel so inclined) that the developers have at least prototype hardware available to them..

I can't see much point in doing that when you've got decent lighting engines these days..Originally Posted by Butcher

Cheaper to prebake, even with a good lighting engine, it's still cheaper not to do anything.
