How good is Rome: Total War ?

I should be getting my copy early next week from Amazon - a purchase made purely based on reviews.

It's the first actual game i'll be playing on my new rig (apart from FS2004 which isn't really a game IMO). Is there anyone on Hexus that plays this game online and how good is it?

This game's best part is purely the campaign mode, playing online is just playing out single battles and is not where this game is at.

I own the entire series including all expansions and if you like any sort of strategy games which require some planning then you won't be disappointed.

if its anything like the other two then its sure to be brilliant, and given that medival was better than shogun - following a trend - this should be pretty top notch.
