.... on Nov 16th.
Apparently (from official site) the price hasn't changed, but the spec has, a fair bit.
Basic model = £349, and is NOT a OLED. It has a 1280 x 800 optically bonded LCD display. But it does also have 256GB of storage, and this time, it's an NVMe SSD rather than the 64GB EMMC..
The two OLED models now have a slightly larger 7.4" screen, OLED, and a claimed much better battery life. They go for £478 and £569 respectively. Still 1280x800, though.
The differennce seems to be that for your extra £90, you get a 1TB NVMe SSD rather than 512GB, and you get premium anti-glare etched glass on the 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display. So, similar to the original version, I guess - is the bigger storage and the etched glass worth the £90 price premium?
Oh, and you get :-
- an exclusive startup movie,
- an exclusive virtual keyboard theme,
- removable lining in the carry case.
Wow. Be still, my beating heart.
The Linus review is worth a look at LTT, for anyone interested. The screen does, admittedly, look very good with up to 1000 NITS brightness in HDR, and 110% coverage of DCI-P3 colour space. And an improved 90Hz refresh rate. There are otHer tweaks to the internals, to battery, faster LPDDR5 memory speed and so on. Oh, and Wifi is upgraded from Wifi 5 to 6E. Linus goes throughthe internal tweaks, so it saves me repeating it.
Another thought is the old 64GB and 512GB models are being phased out, and are selling at reduced prices of £309 and £389 respectively which, while stocks last is an opportunity for anyone budget-challenged.
Finally, all the old hardware accessories will work as the interface hasn't changed.
The big question is ..... should I? Hmmm. The answer, of course, is no, I shouldn't.
