Play have it for £7.99 and its in stock. Been thinking on this one for ages now. I don't like simulators though. I have read in a few places that you can play it as just an arcade game to get the feel for it without having to take off and land and worry about having to fly the plane as such. Is this true cos if it is I'll order it in the next few days.

    Yep

Il2 has the 'Quick Mission Builder' - you start in the air, and finish whenever you want.

I think there is a common misconcepion that because this is a flight simulator, it is complex - not largely true.

We are talking about vintage aircraft here, no radar, nothing to worry about apart from keeping a good look out for the other guy and shooting straight.

The complexity is in air-air combat, which believe you me becomes a very fine art indeed - some aircraft turn better than others, some climb better, some dive better etc. The trick is learning how to use your aircraft better than the other guy knows how to use his.

you can make the flight model as arcade as you like, but if you want to mix it with the big boys, sooner or later you will need to crank up everything to max realism

Once you get your first kill, or make your first perfect landing, it will become second nature- achieving these landmarks is no mean thing, and thats what all the fun is about.

    OMG.

Quick question before I order it! Can you actually fly as the big bombers, too, or is it just the smaller fighter planes? Wow. Those videos were amazing. Can't believe I've not got this...

Yep - aside from 2 seater attack aircraft like the IL2 and Stuka (where you can fly in both pilot and gunner positions) it also has the old Russian TB-3 heavy bomber and the German Heinkel He111 (which you will recognise from the Battle of Britain movie)

In the bombers you can be the pilot / bombardier and gunners (all positions)

Lots of 3rd party planes are currently being modelled and will be added in the form of free downloads (possibly a payable add-on CD will be released ) but the B17 Flying fortress and P51 Mustang will be added soon.

Make sure you buy IL2 Forgotten Battles - ie the sequal - as this is the current online game, very few still play the original IL2 (which had fewer planes and no bombers)

Thanks for that Skii. You'll have to excuse me while I laugh, uncontrollably, to the games shop.

When I'm up and ready, I wouldn't mind meeting a few of you Hexus tarts for some friendly shooting.

One more thing: I'm prolly being ditsy, but if I order IL2: FB, I don't need the 'original' IL2.

    ie - I'll buy this alone: http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page...C&title=106532

Nope. Reading here, the Saitek Platinum 3d seems to be a bargain at £30. May hold off buying one until I'm liking the game. I didn't fair too badly using a mouse in B1942.

    Depressed
Not because I called you scary, is it?

If you're not able to solve them, then you shouldn't worry about them too much, or at least try not to let them get you down. What can you do about something, if you can't do anything about it? Worry about the stuff you can influence/resolve. If you want to sound off to someone, then feel free to PM me, Mr. Spikey hair.

Sleeping pills. That'll get you more sleep, to which you'll feel better.

Or, [and watch the remarkable skill as I make sure this doesn't go entirely off topic] play a good sesh of IL2, kill some evil people, and feel a whole lot better!

really appreciate your concern, the problems i ahve can be solved, but it would only lead to more problems hence i called them un-solvable.

I don't take sleeping tablets as they've knocked me around in the past and i want to be able to control my sleep.

Had a huge IL-2 sesh at the LAN WAN thingy last week and it really took my mind off things, but now its back to work and college its back to my problems

If you want to know whats wrong and just how stupid it is then pm and i'll explain it later when i'm a bit more sober,
