X360 HD AV Cable hidden meaning...

COuld the HD AV Cable in the premium pack hint that the X360 Premium will have a HD-DVD drive in it?

I know that the X360 games are meant to all be in HDTV output anyway, but for future media and stuff it would be rather (for want of a better word) schweet

Nope both consoles will be identicle, having 2 different consoles will mean everygame would have to be released in 2 different flavours. Which is bloody stupid and never going to happen. The core system is just a stripped down version of the premium, including the AV cable to keep the cost down for those who can't afford the full set.

The XBOX has an HD cable and HD output, no HD-DVD in that though. I don't think you can read anything into it.

X360 has got a standard 12 speed dvd drive. There are rumours that MS will upgrade to HD-DVD (they don't support Blu-ray), but its like everthing at the moment, just a rumour.

They confirm that the later hardware revisions would be HD-DVD but a wikipedia entry on the HD DVD page hinted at the HD-DVD version coming out a couple of weeks after the Core package.

Where have MS said that later revisions will be HD-DVD?, i want to see evidence of this, because it will go against all console thinking in upgrading hardware.

Thanks for those, very interesting read, especially the first link and peoples comments.

Many people seem to assume that this means that Xbox360 games will come on HD-DVD discs at a later date. This just wont happen.

The later models of the Xbox360 will likely only play HD-DVD *movies* but the games will still be locked with only DVD capabilities.

They wont be able to establish a new standard for the games later, the day they launch, they basically establish a precedent, one that can't be changed, news articles should not be so vague and misleading.

The truth is it really wont. You can't just change the standard of a console after it's been launched, it would mean that gamers would have to buy a new system to play the new games, which means it would be the same as launching the system all over again from the begining.

This is *exactly* why add-ons like the Sega CD and Sega 32x failed in the past, because you had to buy a bunch of extra hardware to use them, which was essentially like buying a completely different system. It just wasn't practical.

In this situation it's even worse because Microsoft would end up confusing people since it's not an add-on. People would not get why new games don't work on the system, and would feel ripped off.
Think that says what i've been trying to put across. Also i see the X360 as a games console and not a DVD player, when HD-DVD's start to hit the market then i would get a new DVD player. MS need to decide whether releasing an upgraded X360 is good for the market or to just leave it as it is.

i think its a touch irrelivant at the mo - as there still isnt a single GIVEN format for next-gen dvds - that is, blue-ray or hd-dvd. until that is decided, i wont personally be investing in either system..

as for hd- i think the games wont look a *huge* amount different at a sensible distance from a telly, because i would *think* that normal-res tvs will have AA turned on in the game to make them look the same?

Non-HD TV's don't support HDTV resolutions so the majority of people won't get the experience of HD res's on the XBox360. You'd have to buy a new TV >_<!

Is anyone actually willing to spend the best part of £1000 just to play a console in higher resolution? I'm not.
