This was known some time ago. I think it was mentioned when the pricing was announced,, this only applies to the wired controller. (for now)

All Xbox 360 peripherals will compatible with a PC running Vista.. woot!

Been looking further into this. The big news isn't that the controller will work with a PC and the X360. The big news is that its been released already (in the US, Europe to follow soon) before the release of the new console. This will give gamers an early look into the new controller.

yeah, going to pick one of these up soon as I can, long as the price is favourable compared to the cheapest I can find the 'xbox 360' version, ie same think without driver disc, else I'll just wait the extra month for that.
