Just curious why you chose to pick the Revolution instead of the other two (also received votes).

Perhaps the question should be "which console are you looking forward to the most?"

Any console really yes. Only put the Rev because it's the one we know the least about, but yeah, we don't have a clue what the PS3 will be like either, even if we know the specs, as i stated earlier.

i think the ps3 will sell most - it has a lot going for it - i'm going to get it simply because i've got an arse-load of ps2 games and i only want 1 console clogging up my av stand..

additionally, the ps3 has one big selling point - blue-ray disks. these are one of the 2 options for next gen (hd) dvds - going out on a limb i'd say its the more likely option to succeed. console sales are about prolonged sales over ~5 years, and as such, i think sony's sale spiel including a blue-ray player will be a strong sellnig point (i know lots of folk who bought a ps2 cos it wasnt much more than a standalone dvd player..)

    time will tell..

Sony's image has taken a huge hit with recent CD, Rootkit and then the buggy removal tool. Sales of Sony based artists have taken a hit.

In terms of Blue Ray vs HD DVD its far too early to say and i'm afraid to say i think the fortunes of a great many companies might be at stake if we have a VHS/Betamax repeat.

I'd guess a blue ray/hd dvd combo device (if this is possible) but i have to say that with the split of the movie studios it is NOT a good sign that this will end well.

Use and enjoy the hardware that is available now as next year it will be better/different.

yes, and having looked at who is backing which format (only 1 major film studio is backing hd-dvd afaik) and how hardware will be available (think of how many homes will have a blueray compatible home cinema setup, simply due to the ps3..) i believe that blueray will be the successful format. i did say i was going out on a limb.. whats yer point?

Basically because they took the market from my beautiful Nintendo - filling the charts with bland rehashed sequels and spin-offs.

    EDIT: This is post-Playstation talk.

I'm put off the Revolution because, at heart, I'm an old-school gamer. I really can't see the Revolution coping with traditional genres very well with that controller (even with the analogue stick attachment) - the Gamecube controller is easily my least favourite controller in the history of gaming (NES included!) which is a shame as the N64 one was grand. The 360 controller is the perfect shape as far as I'm concerned...

Hardware-wise I think the 360 is best at least in the short-medium term. The general-purpose PowerPC core built into Cell really isn't that beefy, and until developers find a way to use all seven of the SPEs concurrently it's going to be hard to pull any serious performance out of the PS3. The 360 is much simpler in terms of archtecture with three identical cores to program for rather than 1 general purpose and 7 vector. The 360's eDRAM will also give it a massive advantage over the other two in terms of graphical quality as it effectively gives you free MSAA. That said, the exact specs of RSX are not yet known so that statement may well change.

The revolution, from the specs known so far, is going to be less powerful than the other two and will rely entirely on gaming quality and innovation to sell units. If they can make the crazy remote thingy work well and intuitively then they have a chance. I'm still wary of having yet another tired Mario/Mario Kart/Wario/Donkey Kong/Zelda rehash cycle. As far as I'm concerned, all the nintendo headline titles peaked on either SNES (Mario Kart/Donkey Kong) or N64 (Mario/Zelda) and they'll really have to do something spectacular to make me consider buying any of those.

Finally, I love the potential for home-integration of the 360 - I'm already running MCE for all my media needs and the idea of the 360 fronting all of that in glorious HD is too tempting to pass up. It's also a lot less proprietary than the PS3 is likely to be, accepting pretty much any USB device containing media you can think of! 360 it is for me then...

I'm looking forward to Revolution most, for sure. It sounds as though it could be the Nintendo console that finally puts them back in a more powerful position. Lets hope so. PS3 should also be worth a look.
