    Red Orchestra moving to steam?

Bit of a turn up for the books. A followup to RO is going to be distributed via steam, bit of info here

    http://www.redorchestragame.com/

The original Red Orchestra won Nvidia's "$1,000,000 Make Something Unreal" contest. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is a standalone follow-up, built on Epic’s Unreal EngineTM 2.5, that introduces new gameplay and features.

It's proving to be a very significant jump to retail from the mod version. As a long term tester (I was lead Euro tester for a while and actually had to turn down running retail testing due to other commitments) I have been playing it a lot lately, and the results are truely awesome.

Some of the best fun i've had in a game for a long time.

masterflash was a beta tester on the previous version. I really liked it as well, will be interesting to see what happens. Just reading through the forums about it, theres allways some compete ****** that complains that they bought UT or whatever years ago and cant understand why the devs want some money.

Wow, nice screenies ... its been over a year since Ive pld RO. Looking forward to seeing the changes.

Whats the player base like now? When I was there, the numbers would be high after an update, but then would kinda dwindle down quickly after.

Think the old mod is quiet with a limited fanbase, but hopefully will get popular when it rols out on steam. With a bit of luck wil be the same price as dod-s (£10ish)

I ended up stopping playing RO because of weirdness with updates both for UT and RO and the maps needing to be redownloaded and taking ridiculous amounts of time. I'll be definately buying it. Dod might be shot in the foot by this though, although i suppose some cash will go to valve.

I am impressed that Darwinia only costs $19.95 on steam too. Unlike BF2 special forces that costs more to download than to buy from Play.com. Darn EA.

Doubt if it will have much impact on dod, gameplay is very different. I found the pace of RO to be more like americas army and BF2. I remember the hassle with patches for ut2k4, maps, etc, was a right pain if you had to reinstall. Last time I played I had aq slight argument with the admin, he decided to setup a mg near a spawn exit, so i dropped my artillery on him, several times Remember peeps dont waste artillery, save it for when you need it most.

On the subject of dod,-s give some of the custom maps a go, SAS run aserver with 10 maps on rotatio can be a good grin.
