USB Gaming Headset

Greetings...

I'm in the market for a "usb gaming headset". I want one that works well, is crisp and wont really interfer with my surround sound setup. I use the 6.1 option when in game, so will most prob rest the headphones around neck and just use the mic bit when I need to.

I don't want to pay too much, but I will pay for quality.. so any recommendations guys ? Ideally I want to order one and have it by weekend

I use the logitech USB20 headphones for playing games like CS without affecting the setup of the surround sound setup when playing music

Medussa USB 5.1 is probably your best bet, I have a pair, spot on bins to Great sound.

I've got a Sennheiser headset, but a lot of people swear by the Plantronics Gamecon.

I have an audigy 2 zs, would I be able to use the majestic (install the drivers etc) without it conflicting with my audigy 2 zs setup. Would the majestic drivers only come into play when the headset is plugged into the usb port ?

Wouldnt want my system trying to use the majestic drivers when its not plugged in !!

Yeah, they're two completely separate devices. Just select the right output device in the control panel when you want to change from speakers (your Audigy 2 output) to the Headset output, and vice versa.

Edit: And don't forget to change the speaker settings when you do this too. When using speakers, I have '5.1' selected, but when changing the output device to your headset, check that the speaker settings are set to 'Headphones'. Once you've done this once, Windows remembers whis speaker settings to use for different output devices.

Dont get the usb medusa's they are terrible compared to the normal ones. The usb mic just is awful.

Can't say I was that impressed by the sound either. My cheap plantronics ones are better.

Got them for free so I'm glad I didnt pay for them or I would have been very annoyed.

But if the headset has 5.1 cant i just leave it at that ? or does windows change the preamp volume to the headset when you change the different speaker type ? If the majestic is using its own driver, why would you need to change anything in windows ?

Im beginning to go off these now lol... I'll read some more reviews. I got a few lan tournies coming up soon, so a wise investiment is critical. Im going to take a trip down tottenham court road and check out YoYoTech

Just went out and bought a Senheisser PC155 for £50, they said i could try it out over weekend, and if crap i can bring it back for full refund on monday.

USB headsets aren't supposed to be anywhere near as good as normal ones, and use lots of system resources. Is there any reason why you're going down the USB route?

I thought about it since I don't have a 5.1 sound card. If anyone knows a USB headset - headphones + mic that's supposed to be OK for about £40, please let me know. I could be wrong about them not being any good and using lots of resources though (hope I am ).
