New Demos : NFS underground and Nascar 2004

I have a GF4 (Ti4800SE) and can run it 1280*1024 all the settings full up and on a 21" monitor it looks sweet!

BTW - My best time is 24.37secs and yes I do have a screenshot to prove it ... I think I'm second best on the NFS site (best is 24.21 I think).

edit : .. just played some more, 26.39s, and in another run i had 6/6 perfect shifts .. when do you whack on the nitro tho? i'm sure that must have the biggest effect (other than shifting and not crashing )

Can play this at full detail at 1280x960 at a decent frame rate on my GF4MX ... So all you lot having problems with decent cards, hmmm

I didn't realise you have to change gear manually in Drag mode, I kept blowing up my engine

And it's absolutely impossible to finish the Drag mode, without either crashing into that car coming across the road, or the train

my bro (who is 9) tried doing te drag race in 1st, as he didnt know you had to change gears either... my tips for drag race :

there are kinda four lanes :

1 2 3 4

sometimes you start in lane 2, but if not, try to get upto a decent speed, either in gear 4 or 5, and then switch to it before you run the risk of crashing into the cars in lane 3, stay in lane 2 as lane 1 disappears as there are some lovely roadworks. then as soon as the roadworks are over, move into lane one to avoid the taxi, here i apply the nitro, and stay in lane 1 to get past the train.. there are prolly better times to use the nitro but that way i get to the end, and usually win

edit :

1024x768, with everything up high runs fine. if i switch to 1280x1024 its jerky, its not as if my system is incapable if a gf4mx can do it!! grr, also it doesnt save my graphics options (might be a read-only file somewhere, i will check).. also what demo do you have (incase there are more than one). mine is the "Need_for_Speed_Underground_Demo_Australia.exe" one

I have the Australia one too. And it doesn't save the options as it's only a demo. All the NFS games are like that

heh, considering the title of this thread is "new demos : nfs and nascar.." has anyone tried the nascar2004 demo? i think i will stick with NFS , also two things - is there some way to skip the movies and annoying kinda legal crap at the beginning of the demo, and what is the estimated release date for this game?

It's released on the 28th of this month on Gameplay.com

And you can't skip those annoying legal things either, hope they're not there on the full game

just been playing some more.. couldnt even break 27seconds then, just wondering if your card does all the motion blur stuff howard as its only dx7 isnt it? (ie doesnt to the nature test in 3dmark2001), might explain why yours runs fine @ higher res?

You played it online it is coll racing against other people, although the lag can be very bad

If anyones a bit bored of the single player demo then I found something to pass some time on it the other night ....

See how many degrees you can rotate while jumping the bridge ! (I managed about 540)

heh, i did like 45 but that was by accident, i prefer the drag races to the circuit... less chance of losing

tho, i might be being completely stupid... but how the hell do you do drag races online? whenever i request a challence i can only choose 1 lap of the circuit map...? yet there are stats for the drag races...
