    Can't log into Steam

    I've not had this problem before except when the Steam network has been down, Steam is set to remember my password but it prompts me for it at Windows login. So I type in my password and I get a message saying:
    'Could not connect to the Steam network.
    This could be due to a problem with my internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info.'
    I've done this, so that proves my internet works, the status of the Steam network isn't showing any problems but i still can't log in. So I thought maybe there was a problem and ever since I've been entering the wrong password. Clicked retrieve my account, got the email and went through the whole resetting password process. But it still doesn't like it, tried this twice but still no luck. Have just uninstalled and reinstalled Steam and I'm still getting the same problem. So I'm stuck.

    Is anyone else having this problem?

    I've not been able to get in for days now and it's doing my head in.

    Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I;d rather not have to download and install all the games again but if I have to I will.

    Indeed. Steam is a nightmare to setup port mappings for and I find it's much easier to get a router which supports uPnP or alternatively set the system as the DMZ within the router.

    Portwise you need to map the following ranges for Steam ;

    UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
    UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
    TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive

    Hope this helps.

    Finally got round to putting my PC back together after taking it to my mates house for the weekend. Booted up, logged into Windows and Steam runs first time without any problems. Strange that!! I'm now just updating a few games but the main problem has gone. I'll try connecting to a CS:Source server later.

    Thanks for your help everyone.
