PSP questions : Ripping DVD's to memory stick

I know ripping DVD's might be a gray area, but seeing as even Sony prdouce software for this (the bloody hypocrite's that they are) i guess it's an ok subject.

I just used CloneDVD Mobile to rip a DVD and played it on my PSP (I ripped with the highest quality setting i could). TBH, I'm not massively impressed with the quality, although its fairly good. What should the quality be like compared to proper UMD's?

Does anyone have any tips for this? Such as, what's the best format to use, best software etc?

the problem with videos on the memory stick versus UMDs is one of resolution - sony artifically cripple their player so UMDs run at full resolution, whereas files on the stick have a lower maximum which is then scaled - like playing a 640x480 game on a 1024x768 TFT

Definately not really worth doing. When you rip a DVD you are technically reverse engineering the product hence breaking the copyright on the movie in question.

Like you said, it is a bit of a grey area. Backing up software or anything else is pretty much something that is talked about frequently and how the law exactly works in the given situation. The question you need to think on is whether what you are doing is legal or not, even if it is for just personal use.

    Locking the thread just incase.
