I'm suprised you didn't mention the fact that despite the fact that it is an old game the engine is a dog, low fps, high CPU usage, it manages to heat my cpu up to 70 C, and still look like crap. Quite how they managed this when I can run Unreal 2 fine on the same machine is quite a mystery.

I have to say multiplayer is ok, that is when my bios isn't resetting my cpu when it gets too hot.

I wonder if bungie actually did any work on the game before Microsoft bought them out, because if they did, they didn't do any work after.

I can't agree more with you review. I'm a PCgamer reader and took their reviews in general as very fair ones and according to my likes. But with Halo....................they are just blind. It is boring, repetitive, old, I kept going only because when I begin something I have to finish it but what a waste of time. Thanks for a fair review

if halo had been released when it should have (ie. before M$ got there claws into bungie a couple of years ago) then i think its obvious the pc release would have been much more succesful.

i was hoping for something amazing but it turned out to be a rather lame/boring fps that didnt offer anything new or exciting. a dull affair and lets be honest the engine don't really cut it nowdays. i ain't tried the multiplayer, and that could be great, but how it's any different to the million other standard fps out there i don't know (oh hang on, it's got a jeep, whoopee!)

quimico, thanks, I try to approach every game with an open mind. Halo just didn't make it compared with the competition nowadays.

eek, I think I'm going to be mugged, but I really enjoyed Halo.

Perhaps I'll have to retry Unreal 2 as I got board by level 2.

Actually found a review of Halo that I completely agree with.
All the other reviews I read didn't seem to mention the repetetiveness or any of the issues with the game as if they didn't exist.

I mean, as well as the game sucking, you cant hear half of the cutscenes due to issues with EAX.

    Bloody useless.

Ooh, if I push that 'edit' button by accident one more time.....

Anyway, what I was going to say, Trickle, (which is why I wanted to quote you, not edit you...) was that if you enjoyed it, good on ya!

I personally found Unreal2 to be an enjoyable experience, but... and this is a big 'but', I wouldn't play it again just for the fun of it. Unreal 2 is a one time play game for me... just not enough happens. Sadly, with Halo, after about ten minutes in each level, it started to feel like I was playing the game for the third time round even though it was the first time I've ever played it on any format!

Still, it's all down to personal preference; my wife likes 'Changing Rooms', I'm more of a 'Bikini Beach Volleyball' type meself.

I had the playing othe beta of this for mac (all legit), and even tho we have very few mainstream games, it still wasn't great. Sure, it smoked along on the dual g5's, and looked pretty good with everything maxed out, it still was pretty repetetive.
Got to say, excellent review guys.

The truth of the matter is that this game is LEGEND on the xbox (I have owned one in the past) but when it moved to PC it lost some of the playability, don't know if it is the poor code used, problems experienced or just some games are best left to consoles ?!?
