    Price of 360 games

Do you not think that retailers are really taking the p!ss when it comes to pricing XBox 360 games? Game and Gamestation have the majority at 50 notes a game with even Amazon and Play charging £40. This is just far far too much. The sad thing is that all these retailers lose my business because I nip up to everyone's favourite supermarket (Tesco) and pick them up at £40. I've noticed that Tesco also price PSP and DS games below those of the normal game retailers. I'd rather support Game and Gamestation but I can't afford an extra tenner for a game.

Rip off prices? And also Tesco or local game shop?

I don't think the retailers are taking the urine. I think they'd love to drop the prices to out-compete their fellow high-street sellers, but they can't afford to sell at a loss (unlike tesco who use it as a loss-leader) and they don't have as low overheads as online shops.

It's a combination of higher development costs and licensing fees that lead to the games being expensive. If we as a gaming market were more interested in lower budget games and were willing to pay more for the hardware costs of a console then the games would be cheaper.

Buying PC games is one alternative - there are no licensing costs ontop of normal game development prices, but you have to do a lot more testing to make sure it works on the variety of hardware configurations out there, especially if you're pushing the boundaries. Alternatively you can settle for less boundary pushing games on the technology front and go for more fun-gameplay type games that can be developed by independant studios with lower budgets.

The choice is ours as consumers to directly influence game prices

I tend to shop around, Gamestation aren't too bad if you can wait long enough for them to stick a game on "deal of the week".
I bought N3 new last week for £29 which was £10 cheaper than Tesco and Play. The week before FarCry was £29. and I think Tomb Raider is £25ish, it all depends on what the offer of the week is...

I also get games on Play.com, Amped 3 is £17 as is Full Auto and a few others.

I nearly bought Star Wars 2 from Tesco for £38 (I even payed for it) but when I was I got to the car I thought I'd check the price on Play.com (as they're usually pretty much around the same price) on my phone and found it to be £30 so I took it back (although i still haven't got round to ordering it).

shop around, you can definitely get most games for cheaper than the RRP.

I use shopto.net and havent paid more than £37 for a game in ages.

There is no way game or gamestation will get another penny of my money as they are trying to screw people over.

I'm the same, I always shop around and find some great bargains for 360 games. Got Saints Row last week for £29.99 from PC World.

With some of the Xbox 360 games being region free, Play Asia is a great place to buy games. Prices are usually around £23 including shipping and shipping takes about the same time as Play.com. There's the possibility of getting hit for around £7 in customs charges, but it doesn't happen very often and even then the total price is only £30!

I agree though, £50 is too expensive for a video game. I'd never pay more than £40.

The supermarkets are the worse, they still sell launch games at full whack.

ill be going with gameplay.co.uk about a tenner less than most places. of course then you have to wait for it to drop through the door. but as its only a DVD box it does actually DROP THROUGH THE DOOR rather than messing around with couriers

Not up my way. Tesco are always flogging brand new 360 games for £40 rather than the £50 Game/ Gamestation charge.

edit: Have just seen that you can opt to buy US or Japan titles
