bought dark messiah yesterday and tho the game itself seems to be pretty good...
it WILL not stop crashing in a myriad of different ways. :angst:
my computer is pretty stable and has never crashed in any of the recent games i bought, CoH, oblivion, FEAR, or any source engine games like hl2, css, or dods.
It wont even run load at all in 1280x1024!
anyone else having problems?
running on a 7900gt by the way, and no it hasnt died yet, because it runs everything else perfectly...

I'm also on a 7900GT.
I've not had any problems at all with it, working perfectly fine apart from the very occasional graphical glitch (and only very small ones at that).
Mines on a 7800GTX though, but it's going fine on max settings at 1280x1024.
i suffered that too.......i'm sure it's a sound card issue.
Milesfast sound is a right old drain on most systems.
It crashed on me three times in the first 15 mniutes too.....walking on horse back to the gates, trying to make it through the gates and then fighting the big old trolly thing with the ballista.
Shame.
Also...I found the training quite......cheesey! The blokes voice was doing my head in.
Hmm well, out of interest, did any of you guys try the demo? I did and didn't suffer any problems, just wondering if this is the case with you too, and the issue has only come about in the final version?

I vote Gothic 3 as buggiest recent game...so much potential not play tested and left unbalanced

When I tried the Demo out, seemed fine. But completely different set up here.
aye the demo ran perfectly for me, just the full game that is spacking about...

There are lots of bad reviews for DM out right now and I can't quite figure out why. I think the reviewers were expecting something like Oblivion, I would call this an FPS more than an RPG, give this game to an open minded reviewer who likes both FPSes and RPGs and I'm sure it'll get a fantastic score.

For me it randomly crashes to the desktop or when you get the loading block in the middle of the screen (just after the Ballista bit - level 1) it locks up with a windows mouse pointer.
When this happens I have to hard reset the system to get back into it.
I never had any probs at all with the demo though.
I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1 and have the KX audio drivers for it, had to put those drivers on as Scarface had no sound at all. Also got the latest official Nvidia drivers installed.
Seems quite strange the different problems including myself are having.
I've got the Geforce FX problem, it won't show any of the cut scenes or the logo intros at the loading up of the game. Don't care about the loadingup issue but the cut scenes make me feel like I'm missing out on half the game. Hope they intend to bring out a patch for the geforce fxs considering their official site said those cards were supported. I wouldn't have bought the game if I knew that they weren't.

Found a quick fix whilst truding about the net for solutions, worked for me and others. Worth giving a shot.
Enable the developers console in the options.
Open it up with the tilde key "~"
Now enter "mat_picmip 1" without quotes. This does a small thing to one of the detail settings I believe but it has stopped the constant crashing I was experiencing.
Worth giving a shot to get it running properly till a proper patch is released for it.
On the subject of Elder Scrolls, I'd suggest Daggerfall as a candidate for buggiest game ever..Quote:

Looks like a lot of us will have to wait and see what the patches are like, Arkane say they'll be bringing a patch out in the next couple of days.
Mine arrived Monday, it is now Wednesday, it is still downloading on Steam. God knows what it is downloading as I installed it from disc, Update News says there are no updates, but it is going SO SLOWLY. 47% infact.

Can anyone who is playing this help me? After you kill the dragon thingy you have to go put the crystal on the altar or somthing.
But the door is locked and there is goblins behind it ( U are on a path and onn each side is back nothingness and in front of you is like a jail style door. I havent been able to get past this bit yet :( Any ideas?

I have this patched up to the latest build and have been suffering DX8 crashes as well as memory crashes. Wish they would get it fixed.
At long last I seem to have a decent working solution to share with some.
By the look of it AVG and Zonealarm seem to be causing probs with this game. I disconnected from the net and disabled both of these programs and lo and behold. 2 hours play with not one crash.
Worthwhile mentioning for those that are trying to play through the single player like myself :)
Thanks for the info Ferral. I bought a copy from HMV recently but not played it yet. I briefly played the demo but hope to play the full game sometime soon.
Think Splinter Cell Double Agent on PC is by far the buggiest game I have ever played.

Na, its the only game that crashes so it isn't my PC. Everything else is workiong just dandy. Take a look at the Ubisoft forums, most of the posts there are about various crashes and people trying to fix them.
You must be one of the fortunate ones that has experienced no probs at all. Most users are having major difficulty just trying to get it stable to be able to play it. I couldn't get through the portal at the start of level 8 for around a month, kept crashing to the desktop once I went through it everytime I tried to play.
Now though I done what I had mentioned with the 2 programs and got right through level 8 and onto level 9 without 1 crash. The game itself really needs fixing, They have managed to fix a fair bit of stuff in the first 2 patches but the crashes still need sorting.
Nothing beats Hidden & Dangerous for buggiest game ever.
I had the deluxe version of H&D and it worked a charm for me, mind you they did get it fixed and working great. Dark Messiah is the only game that I have ever had this much trouble with. I've had strange probs with some of the older Ubi games like desktop colour depth etc but thats been it really.
2 patches later and Dark Messiah still isn't fixed. I literally ressurected this thread with some info that worked for me and wanted to share with other players in the hope of helping.
Mind you, been playing this morning and chapter 9 keeps locking up. Literally play for 10 mins then it locks up :( So close to the end of the game now and it is giving me grief yet again. I've just managed to purge my soul of Xana so I can use the holy sword of the Dragonclaw, got outside and killed the undead in the graveyard and it locked up. So damned annoying. Arcane know of all the trouble people are having with this but are still yet to come up with a patch to fix the constant crashing.
I was one of the lucky users that never experienced the infamous sound loop on HL2, lo and behold though I get it frequently on Dark Messiah which usually leads to a crash or the game freezing for a few mins while it gets its head round what it is actually supposed to be doing.
I do like the game and feel that it would be a great experience start to finish (forget the RPG side of things as its virtually not there) if it was stable. As a first person fantasy adventure its great, granted it is not as good as quite a few of the other FPS games out there on the market today. But being a fantasy themed game it is decent enough until the expansion for Oblivion hits the shelves.
By the look of it I will have managed to persevere long enough to have actually completed it before a working patch is released. I need to get it uninstalled as it takes up over 7Gb of hard disk space and want to install a few other games!

the crashes pee'ed me off so much i gave up on it, and i was probably only 2 hours into the game....
Might reinstall at some point if i hear that most of the glitches are fixed because i did quite enjoy it when it was working...
And ive upgraded my computer in the mean time so that might make a tad of a difference i guess...

Solution I gave worked a charm on chapter 8 but after I killed the undead cyclops on level 9 it started again with the loading crash I have just mentioned and now it is around every 10 mins. Just getting so pig sick of it now as there will only be an hour or so play left in it but it won't let me play :(
I know people HATE these posts, but I played it through after the first patch and didn't hit any issues. Great game too, the story was trash but the combat was thrilling. Slaying a room of five orcs one by one in butcherous swift succession, some of them using stealth, with twin daggers without taking a single hit is one of my fondest gaming memories. :)
I finally managed to get through it last week. Must admit I really enjoyed it. I had some malware on my machine (my bad hadn't done a system scan in a while with ad aware etc) which was contributing towards the crashing !
Ending was pretty good I must admit. I saved just before getting the skull and watched 2 of the endings. I watched the other 2 online. Basically there is a good and bad with variations for 2 key decisions you make during the game, doesn't really change the outcome that much. Just hope that they do something else with it in the form of an expansion or something, enough to finish it off.
