    Wages in the IT Industry

I'm a so called IT Manager (only person in the IT Department) for one of the largest brushware manufacturers in the UK.

I have around 50 users and 60 machines with 3 servers over 2 sites (240ft away from eachother).
We have a bespoke warehouse system, then all the machines are XP/Vista based with a 2000, 2003 Server's and a SCO box for the WHM system.
I'm 30 now and have been working in IT since I was about 18.

Where can I find out what kind of wages other people at a similar grade are being paid, its come to wages again here at work so I'm trying to prove how much I "should" be on and how much I'm worth without walking out and proving the point...

where you are in the country can have more of an effect , but If I was advertising that job ( depending on the SCO knowledge required ) I'd have put it at around 27k - if I was after someone who was a unix guru as well , then I'd add another 5 to 7k on that.

Why not just do a jobsearch on fish4 or something like that and find similar vacancies in the local area? Should give you a good idea what the going rate is for what you're doing.

Just out of interest where abouts in the East Mids?

Let me speak to a few people I know who do similar stuff in Leicester, I'll see if they can give me some ballpark figures.

After a quick browse I would say at least £30k, try GMB online salary checker

It would appear about ~£25k seems to be the trend around this neck of the woods, admittedly one of the people I asked maintains a much smaller network.

Freelance consulting would to be the way to go if you can build up enough of a client base

I'm digging this thread up because I came looking for it for a link that I'm sure used to be on here...

It's come to the time where I am about to ask for more money at work (I get paid pittance compared to similar jobs elsewhere and the company relies heavily on my being there), and I remembered this thread. I'm sure I saw a link on here to a site that showed the average wage for each area by job type, but it seems to have vanished! I'd really like to use it if anyone knows the link as I'm due to be discussing it tomorrow and would like a point of reference.

Maybe the Hexus mods removed it to stop too many people getting ideas
