    Possible Idea for a Website?

Was just trawling the internet looking for some info on a particular Movie Soundtrack, when it occurred to me that there isn't a music version of an imdb.com site. I'm sure I'm not the first person thats thought of it, is there one in the making does anybody know?

It would certainly be a valuable database of music, used on as large a scale as imdb.com.

    Comments anybody?

CDDB? When you stick a CD into iTunes or whatever, haven't you ever wondered where it gets the track names?

To be honest, i think wikipedia does a pretty good job for albums.. if not, then CDDB has it (although i don't think there's that much actual info there, it just has just about every album and a track listing)

What you want is a complete repositry for all the minute details about a recording. Including session musicians, witers, producers, etc. Then make this a fully referenced list showing what else they have performed on.

Also a linked list with covers of the same track etc.

this is something i have thought about in the past. I have half the DB schema in my head already

It's pretty simple to do, just get access to CDDB and take only soundtracks. You could just make it as an extension to CDDB. I'm sure your service would be equivocal to CDDB though.

It's been done a few times:

www.last.fm is the best, www.pandora.com does have some info but its not in the same league (and is more focused on the radio aspect).

www.roomthirteen.com does a good job of rock/metal music from the past few years and is expanding exponentially..

Those are just the ones I know about, i'm sure there are plenty more out there That said, competition is always a good thing so theres nothing to stop you doing it, especially if you think you can do better
