FLASH WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER
HERE IS A FLASH WARNING OF HEAVY SNOW AND BLIZZARDS AFFECTING
NORTHERN ENGLAND.
ISSUED BY THE MET OFFICE AT 15:20 ON WEDNESDAY, 31 DECEMBER 2003.
SLEET AND SNOW WILL MOVE EAST THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF 10-15CM ARE POSSIBLE ON HIGHER GROUND WHERE STRONG
TO GALE FORCE WINDS WILL LEAD TO DRIFTING AND OCCASIONAL BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS. LOWER LEVELS MAY ALSO SEE ACCUMULATIONS OF AROUND 5CM IN
PLACES. ICE WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD ON SOME UNTREATED ROADS GIVING
DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
