hi all.
appologies if this question is quite simple. my skills unfortunatley are not in the computer area.

i am having problems with my hard disk. mesh have told me it must be swapped.

is there an easy way to take a copy or image of whole system and save it to a new(extra hard disk drive i have installed) the reason i ask this, is that i have spent ages setting up a relible xp system and adding specific programmes and if they change hard disk i will have to start again.

i have cyberlink dvd solution.

I don't think it's possible to backup programs (?) you could try RAID 1 which mirrors the current HDD, but I don;t really know much about it, sorry

Acronis True Image 10 Home Edition. It's £20 and you can use it to backup data for restoring when you get a replacement disk, or even copying to your extra hard disk to use that as your new disk.

I think a trial is available. As long as the PC is returned within the trial period you shouldn't have problems restoring.

Failing that, do a search for version 7 - I think it may still be free

You can also create an image of the hard disk using Norton Ghost and save it onto DVD's. Then when the new disk is in simply use the iso files to restore the PC to its former state.

Or you could use a program like Alchohol 120% or Daemon Tools and mount the iso onto a virtual Drive and pull off the files you are wanting to keep if you decide to just do a standard XP installation.
