What's the UK equivalent of RadioShack?

Seems like americans claim you can find ANYTHING in radioshack, and they seem to have one in every town

Used to be Tandy (literally the UK arm of Radioshack) but They seem to have all gone now. I'll second Maplin, it's pretty good for most things.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

Reason i'm asking is because i need some solvent for fixing my phone's joystick, based on the instructions here:

    http://whistler.intelecasoft.com/how..._k750_joystick

    And to be applied here:

    http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/2...oystick6pw.jpg

its the classic k750i/w800i joystick problem

But, you know you can get WD-40 in the UK right, no need for fancy solvents.

    Try Halfords/B&Q/Homebase/Tesco, etc.

It's a Water Despersant, but it's a solvent as well.

    MARCOS!! STOP!!! DONT USE WD-40!

lol, i went and bought what was refered to as "electrical contact cleaner" solution, from a forum to fix my joystick. DONT use wd-40, i cant remember why, but there was a good reason not to use it, basically being, its nt going to be good for your joystick. here in derby, we have a little electrical shop kinda thing called Potts, and i got it from there, but when i saw the label, i recognised it. ill show u the logo, and hopefully u'll think "ahhh! that thing is it!" and thats the solvent you need.

    this is what i have.....

and thats exactly what you need. its perfect because, apparently, its a rapid evapourating substance (so its all gone by time you turn your fone back on), and its incredibly high pressured, and it blows away/ decomposes all the dirt and grime inbetween those contacts inside the joystick.

i tried it, it sorta worked, you do have to keep doing it....
spray, jiggle about, spray, jiggle about, spray...etc
...for AGES though. it made it alot better, but it lasted about a week or two before it was back to normal. i just bought a new joystick off ebay for a penny (£2.99 postage obviously) and plan on fitting that. but i have a new phone now, so not to rushed

No WD-40 on electrical gizmos and stuff! Leaves a residue that can attract more dust and grime very quickly. Leaving you in a worse situation, and although its not conductive, it can soften certain plastics used in components which will shorten the phones life!

As mentioned above, use switch cleaner, its designed to well er.... clean switches without leaving residue or damaging your phone mate! While your cleaning the switch mate spray a bit on a lint free cleaning bud and give the battery and sim card contacts a wipe, my old Sony E kept switching off as the battery contacts were a bit tarnished.

I second that. I use Isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol or IPA). It's a couple of quid or so for a 500ml bottle. Maplins certainly do it in aerosol form, but I prefer a simple liquid form in a bottle. Maplins may not have that. My last (current) bottle I got from a local chemist.
