    New Microsoft Product

I found this fairly mindblowing to be honest, they've really taken touchscreen to a new level....

Check out the top video on: http://on10.net/ its 17 minutes long but its worth watching.

    Now THAT is cool!

Same kind of thing I guess, just used in a different way. This is the future though, and I like it.

I've got a good idea that this isn't Microsoft's technology and that they bought it out. I saw stuff like this by a different company ages ago.

    Official site here: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/

I think it looks stunning, the kinda gadget I could sit and play with each day. However it's kinda a shame when they show this kinda stuff cause you know it'll be years before you get to see it in your living room, if ever.

    So cool though!

Note to moderators: I think there are two threads floating around about this, could you merge them into one and rename to 'Microsoft Surface' please?

Does look very very cool. Maybe in 10-15 years it'll actually be a commercially viable product

I soo want a Microsoft Multi-touch coffee table now

    This video

    http://hardware.slashdot.org/hardwar...0/127246.shtml

suggests that it will be out by the end of 2007, with a price tag of arond 5000 USD..so might be around sooner than you think =)

Also i'm fairly sure that microsoft will have just bought or licenced the base technology here, but then multi-touch is nothing new in the computing world anyway, its just never been popular in consumer electronics..Apple won't have developed their multi-touch technology in house either, it will most likely have been licenced also.

edit: also there are some videos/interviews that show multi-touch working on tablet PCs, with multi-touch built in to Vista and the standard MS apps..maybe a reason to buy a tablet PC at last

Pretty certain the news said $10k, so £5k.

An extremely similar product was shown recently though (past six months?) and it seems knobbing Microsoft ripped the idea off. Nice!

Very unlikely, 6 months from seeing someone elses idea to having a working product you can let journos touch? Lots of companies seem to have variants of multi touch products in development now =)

The Apple iPhone has a multi-touch screen, you can use it in a similar fashion to zoom in and out of pictures and so on.

Looks like an awesome concept, not sure I'd want one at home, though it would be cool in a restaurant, or even better in a pub!

pub would be a good option,

eg: putting your pint on the table identifies the beer and suggests others,

    interface for the juke box,

Order your food in the resturant while you sit and wait etc.
