They can fair trash the place though. One ate it's way through some juggling balls (mine) and some £80 boots (hers) at my ex's house. Ripped up some clothes as well trying to make a home for itself. Wasn't fun cleaning up the afterwards...
Never did see the little blighter though!
We had some mice in our kitchen coming up through one of the smallest holes you've ever seen under the sink. Little blighters loved getting into the bin and tearing the bin liner to shreds.
Tried humane traps, which we'd used outside in the past with great success. Looks like we had some smarter than the average mice because they nicked the food but didn't get caught.
Ended up using a snap trap which worked pretty well but was a pain (literally) to set as it was so sensitive. Then my mum went and bought an electric trap which was expensive but worked very efficiently. Came in one morning to see a tail sticking out the other end
Would have preferred the humane approach, but you can't have a mouse in your house
We had the exact same thing. They would come up through a small hole in the kitchen wall (1/2" diameter) and chew the bin bag in the kitchen bin - pain in the arse when it came to taking the bins out. We caught him at it one evening, cheeky bugger.
Called the council, they laid some poison about the place and I filled the hole with expanding foam. RIP mouse.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

Well get used to seeing them as your going to see more and more of the little critters now councils are deciding to empty rubbish on a crazy rota system.
Either that or borrow a cat
My uncles cat used to bring in more mice than it deterred. I don't think cats are as good as they used to be...
new tv show: Cat Camp - where todays pampered pussies are whipped into mouse-catching shape

My cats do not tolerate a mouse, and my dog will not tolerate a rat.
Actually I heard that rats will be Britain's bigger problem this summer. Extra food lying around in bins longer, warm summer expected and traditional predators dying out. My dad has just bought a wrist-rocket catapult and can hit a rat with a ball-bearing from about 10 yards away. This might be a good time for you lot to invest in one too.
(I'm getting one, but in my case it's for ravens, and I will fire peanuts at them)
(Thanks Evilmunky)
