...after receiving yet another popup from Apple Software Update, giving me the choice of installing Quicktime (which I've paid for) and iTunes (which I don't want and have uninstalled more than once), and noting that the QT only install on Apple's website is out of date, and in the light of the happyhappyjoyjoy news that Safari has come to Windows, I offer the following artist's impression of what the Apple Software Update box might look like before long:

edit: Another thing - apparently they can infest my damned machine with their bloody itunes crapware without requiring a restart; so why do they demand a restart when I uninstall the damned thing?

I had the dubious pleasure of working out why itunes (and other assorted apple crap) was on my dad's PC a while back. He had installed quicktime and it had infected his machine with unwanted rubbish. Took me a while to finally kill off those apps.
I wish there was some legal way of insuring that what you download is only what you install. I hate these "uncheck this box" if you don't want another 10 apps installed and spam in your email account.
It's one of the many reasons why I dislike apple.

I'm a PC and I scarily do almost everything asked of me and I'm quite neat.
I'm a MAC and I clearly dont even wash my own shirts yet, Mum does them for me, and I wonder what my CSE's will come through like.....man!

I had to install quicktime this morning.. Oh dear god whhhhhhhhhhhhhy? This is what happened:
1. went to website with Quicktime video (apple.com btw)
2. informed i needed quicktime, would i like to install it?
3. OK, downloads a small exe which then downloads the main app, installs
4. restart the webpage- quicktime pops up - there's a new version of quicktime out - would you like to update? WHAATT?!?! I just grabbed it - oh, I see, Apple gave me 6.2 and now I need 7.1.. argh
5. Go back through steps 2-4 with 7.1. Still doesn't work properly (IE 7). Well done apple.
6. Spend a while fighting quicktime's insane need to run ALL THE BLOODY TIME in my tray - winpatrol goes nuts trying to kill it (thank god). Dig around in options for 5 mins turning annoyances off (check for updates, install in tray).
Apple are sodding pants at software for Windows - it's all junk! I wouldn't touch their bug-ridden piece of bloatware browser in this lifetime.

I put safari on my new lappy. Then deleted it. Then spent some more time deleting other stuff. I don't know why I installed it, as I hated it when I owned a mac and used firefox! I like new IE7 though, sweet!

The hilarious irony to all this, is that one of the pitches they're making for buying a Mac, is that it isn't bloated up with useless software that you don't need.
Thanks Apple, thanks for deciding what I need, and thanks for then forcing it down my throat.
Oh wait, I'm using a PC without QuickTime or iTunes, so I'm free of all that crap. Awesome!

Hmmm. Problem is I HAVE to have QT; there's a bunch of creatives who do video walkthroughs of proposed developments for us who INSIST on using QT, which I then have to convert.
